Newegg question/problem...

hey guys. like yall know, newegg is a great reseller. ive never had any problems with them. but i am considering getting an lcd screen from them, then i read about their dead pixel policy. they say that they will only replace/refund if the lcd has 8 or more dead pixels. why do they have this policy? seems to me that ANY dead pixels would be enough for a replacement/return. also, if i get one from them, what are the chances it will have 7 or less dead pixels??

Just a guess, but I bet their suppliers have this policy. NewEgg might not be able to get their money back unless the monitor has that many dead pixels. Most vendors have the dead pixel policy. 8 does seem like a lot though.

Mike

EDIT: What size monitor were you looking for? The reason I ask is because I was at Office Depot today working on a printer when I noticed some SVA 15" LCD's on sale for $197.65 after MIR. Can't find it on the Office Depot site but THIS is what they look like and HERE is a link to salescircular.com which documents the deal.

I don' know anything about SVA but it had one of the nicest pictures I've seen on an LCD. SVA site link

I have purchased 2 17" LCD's through newegg with no dead pixels whatsoever. An Albatron and a CTX PV720L. Both sweet little guys....the pixel issue is rare nowadays, but it used to be quite a high failing factor back when the panels were more expensive...manufactures are quite a bit more strict on their QA policies with the newer generations of TFT's, so I wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

i would warrant a guess that newegg's dead pixel policy is dictated by the LCD vendors.

it is quite rare to not have at least 1 dead pixel on the larger LCD models, particularly 18" and up. also some vendors like NEC have a high dead pixel requirement before replacement (avoid!) than some other brands...
