Let me say up front that this is not a price check for anything I'll sell here (not for a while anyway) and I'm not looking for offers. But I'm thinking of buying a server this week and then selling one of my workstations sometime in the near future. The problem is that I'm not sure if the server is a good deal, or what to ask for the workstation.

So here goes:

Server
Dell PowerEdge 1300 with dual PIII 400 Xeons and 256MB ECC RAM, Perc RAID controller and two 9GB SCSI drives. Seller is asking $300, and that includes two working HP Vectra-L Pentium 133 cows. Seller is a good friend, so no worries there.

Workstation
PIII 667 Slot1 with 1GB PC133 SDRAM, 36xCDROM, 30GB Maxtor drive, floppy, 8MB AGP card. Inwin mid-tower case. Nothing fancy, just a cow. Price=???

So is the server a good deal? It seems like it to me, but I'm still in shock at some of the deals Dell and others have. And if I sell my workstation, well...is it even worth selling?

Price on the dell looks good, esp. w/ the scsi drives. I'd say you could get anywhere from 250-350 for the cow, mostly b/c of the ram, otherwise it's be less.

Hell, I'd pay $300 for it. That's a learning tool if I ever saw one.

If it only had 256MB in it, the workstation should easily bring at least $300-400.

Ok, thanks guys. I figured the Dell was a good deal and I'll probably sell the cow to a friend for $200. That'll leave me with $100 out of pocket for the server and HP Vectras. I'm going to give Linux Terminal Server a shot.
