cable modem questions

my uncle's cable modem craped out on him and he needs a new one from what he tells me. he asked me to look for one for him but im not sure what to look for in cable modems(differances). i have dsl and have not used a cable modem
any sugestions on one thats good for the buck . i looked at newegg and they currently only have 3 to choose from but they seem (to me) to be similar in performance.
im not lookin for the the million dollar modem just something under $100

First you should check with the cable isp as most have a list of supported modems. I use a Linksys BEFCMU10 and it blew away the Motorola that I had before it.

yup and bestbuy is always having deal on the linksys modems. i got mine for like 60 bucks after a mail in rebate

like MDS said check with the ISP first

thanks for the quick replys im gonna do a little serchin for a good price on the linksys and may stop by Best buy just to see if it is the "best buy"
me not knowing any thing about the cable modems i mite have gone with the motorla sb just because i see it everywhere i guess its just good advertisements lol
