You'd probably have to call M$ when it came time to activate it.

You can install and then see what happens when you try to activate it. Since it's only on one PC, I don't think it's illegit, you would just have to make 'the call' because so much hardware changed.

Heck, I'd just tell 'em your other PC broke so you had to go buy a new one. Your installing you copy of XP Home on it as a replacement. You should have to tell them about your other PC.

No, I don't believe you can because it was an OEM version. The EULAs are different for OEM OSs, which are married to the original system.

If osprey is right then M$ is even more evil than I thought. My feeling is that as long as only one copy of an OS is installed on a machine then it is legit. Irregardless of whether it was the OEM or not or whether it was on the original system or not. Who's to say that the Home edition didn't come with the new system?

Just tell them the power supply went haywire, got hit by lightning etc and fried just about everything so you replaced it all. No need to bring up the existence of a 2nd machine.

Actually, osprey4 is right. But they are pretty lenient. Do what I did under exact same circumstances.

Load up XP Home on the new PC. Use the same CD Key that came. When it comes to activation, choose activation by phone and call the toll free # and tell the peep exactly what you did and to provide you with the activation code. Sound sure and confident as if you've done it 23,987 times before. Do not tell anything wrong. Just plain facts.

They will read out the activation code to you.

Good Luck.
