That's hard to say. I believe most are made in China, no matter which brand,(generally speaking).

When I bought my chair to go with my brand new PC and brand new computer desk, I went to Staples, Office Max, and Office Depot, and sat in every chair they had on display. That's my advice to you, since, if you're like me, you'll be spending many an hour sitting in it.

The chair I decided on was a little pricey,(at least for me), at $180. What you get in the $150 and above range, seems to be that extra 2 - 4 inches in back height, 2 -4" in the seat width, which makes a notable difference, particularly if you're around 240 lbs.,(on a slim day!), like me.

A little bit more cushioning, and maybe a slightly better grade of leather, also can be found in the more expensive chairs.

Go, my son, and sit, sit, sit. . .then sit some more, in as many chairs as you can. I'm glad I did. But then, that's just me. . .

Good luck in your search.

Oh, and should you find that perfect chair at any of the stores mentioned above, write down the model/brand, order it on-line w/ a discount code, and have it delivered free.

Also, do make an investment in a chair mat, to save your flooring or carpet. I bought the cheapest I could find, but I've just had to replace it after 3 years, due to cracks.
Office Max on-line currently has their heaviest Rubbermaid mats, ($50 - ouch!), but have $25 rebates available. Just got mine yesterday - it's about three times the thickness of my cheapy!

Hope this helps.

- Bill

i would agree. you can't shop for furniture by names brand alone.

you need to sit in as many chairs as you can to find the right one, particulary if you aren't the 'average' sized person. a seat that might be too snug for a larger person, might be just right for a smaller framed person, etc.

At Home Herman Miller Aeron Fully Adjustable

Herman Miller Aeron Fully Adjustable

If you take a closed look almost all of the tv anchors have them. I have one and it is worth every penny--if one can afford one. For me its was a matter of priority and I decided I was going to save my butt. :-) They are unequalled in hot and humid climates where foam makes you hot and uncomfortable. The warranty is 10(!) years and they are built very very well and are very very heavy.

BTW, they have a very good used resale value on ebay.

Design Within Reach has the Aeron and Freedom chairs. These are very pricey but people swear by them.

Have you folks ever seen these? They are pricey, ($300) but I have one of the original wooden ones from about 20 years ago, and let me tell you, it's the greatest chair EVER!

I used to be a commercial illustrator, doing delicate (and extremely precise) airbrush work. Trying to do that from 4 to 14 hours a day, in a 'normal' sit-straight-up chair, will kill your back.

With this type of chair, you are using your entire body to sit up with, not just your lower back!

I cannot recommend this principle enough.
