The WalMart disappearing computer

I was going to buy a $498 Hp from WalMart but they removed from their website. I checked last night and it was back!! My credit card was down stairs so I was going to wait until today. Well, it’s gone again!!! I guess I should have got of my lazy tail and gone downstairs to get my credit card. Anyway I wonder if they do that when they are running low on inventory.?!?!

It was an HP with an AMD 1700 and a 17” monitor. I probably could not have built it for that!!!!

If anyone knows of a similar deal please let me know. Thanks!

That HP you are refering to is still available at certain WalMart Stores. BTW, IMO, I wouldn't go near HP. HP uses SHARED memory in ALL of their machines so you get slower performance. I really don't want to start another war with HP users.

thronka - HP's business PC's don't ALL use SHARED memory. A VEi8 for example has 8MB of dedicated video memory for a Matrox G200 chipset. I'd have to check my VL400.

I agree as far as not recommending them, but just for home use. If you want a good business machine, you couldn't go wrong w/ an HP.

Get a Dell for your house, just remember to get one w/o the "weed"!

I would buy a Dell if it came with the "weed"! (just kidd'n)

This is a small computer for my wife.... Internet surfer and a little bit of Word. I was going to build her one but my price would be right around $460 with out the Monitor.

She does not want me to build her a computer

She says I overreact when she ask me any computer related questions. This will be our 3rd computer and I'm getting ready to build me another one! Woohooo a 4 computer family!

I've noticed a rash of cheap PC's coming out on the market. I keep getting asked about them ( or told about the great deal on a computer! ). If you're just gonna go online and do the basics with a computer, then I'd say go for it. Personally, I'll never buy a system with integrated video. I don't even like integrated sound.

Can't say they are necessarily bad systems, I'd just have a hard time recommending them to anyone ( although just to get some of the peripherals- like the monitor etc, they might be a great starter system ).

One of the reasons there are so many 'cheap PC's coming out' is because the desktop PC market is barely staying level while the mobile laptop market is growing about 15%.

Eventually the average computer user won't use a desktop as much, and get a laptop that can do all he needs without wires.

I will never give up my desktops or stop building them, but I think things are going to be changing dramatically in the computer industry and I hope it's for the better!

David

BTW, I'm thinking about getting that $200 walmart PC special and use it as a cow. Or maybe get a few...

HP's are about the poorest built machines that cross my workbench, even E-Machines & Packard Bell's are better.

IMHO, Dell is the best store bought machine.
You can see the evolution of the cases since 97 or so, in the case of HP and the others, it looks like a case of "the lowest bidder"

www.dell.com I don't know of any killer deals at present, stick around and one will come around in a month or so..
