Well, Richard, I have to say that my HP laptop is ALOT better built than my Dell laptop. The screen on the HP is ALOT better designed and stronger to help prevent the 'twist and crack' syndromw.
The Dells are very good desktops(if you can call an OEM good), but the HPs are actually better, IMO, than the eMachines of the same price range. I have had nothing but trouble with the eMachine brand throughout the years, but the HPs, although not fancy, are at least consistent.
Probably sounds like a rant, but I just had to say it...

Well it's back!!! http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...A41937%3A56811
I know it’s cheap and HPs are not the best computers out there but take a look at it and see what you think! It has integrated video but I have a GeForce2 I will install as soon as I get it. I can't build one for that cheap!

Cooter, you must also realize that the HP you want DOESNT HAVE AN AGP SLOT. I am hoping you are going to use a PCI version if the geForce2?

Any way the point is Mute!! I think I'm getting enough "flak" from everyone to decide otherwise. I will probably just build one.
System just for E-mail, internet and Word:
Enlight 300w Case
ASUS A7N266-VM MB
AMD XP1700 CPU
512MB RAM
40Gig HD
I can build this system w/WinXP for about $460 from NewEgg.
(does not included monitor)

I can sell you a monitor for 30 bucks plus shipping if you want. I got a new one but I am trying to find a buyer for this one I am using now.

The problem with a LOT of these computers is that you can't do a whole lot with them in terms of future upgrades. Ask yourself how many available PCI slots there are in that system. But then again, the person who buys a computer like that probably won't need to upgrade at all. In my experience, the people that buy these kinds of computers tend to hold on to them for as long as the computer will work.

i really don't understand why everyone is shooting down that hp machine. it's roughly comparable to any other brand-name computer for an entry/mid-level prefab computer.
i didn't check out the specs but if it has an agp it's much better better than the dell bargain that was mentioned earlier this year (since that one only had pci slots).
i haven't seen a packard bell in years but i'd take an hp over the packard-bell any day of the week. |
