Outdoors Anybody have trouble with Cendyne CD-RW drive's mail-in rebate?

I bought a Cendyne drive on Dec. 24, 2002 and sent in my mail-in rebate on Jan. 7, 2003. On the rebate coupon,it says that I have to send it in 15 days from the date of purchase. I was within the 15 days limit. I received an email from them and said that I missed the deadline. I e-mailed them and I received the following response.

"Thank you for your rebate inquiry. We have received your submission, but we are unable to honor it because it was not postmarked by the date designated in the guidelines of the promotion.

Guideline postmark: 12-30-2002
Customer's postmark: 01-08-2003"
(I received my Cendyne drive on 12-24-2002)

Am I the only one who is ripped off by them?

I think they do make a lot of money by checking the postmarks and find every reason to refuse your rebate.

Did you look on the coupon (rebate form) ? The offer of the rebate may have expired on 12/30. Many rebates do have an ending date. .... even store coupons have an expiration date.

Sorry to hear that samson:

What was your actual purchase date? 12/24 -I see. I haven't had a prob getting a Cendyne rebate ; I have another in the system now.
Sometimes I think they just misread the postmark date.

So you ordered the drive on 12/24 and received it on 12/24?? Is this correct?

Did you drop it in the mailbox on the evening of 01/07. Even so, a 01/08 postmark should still make you legit.

I forgot - is that through rebateshq? You need to call them.

Then again, Partsman may be correct. I use a lighted magnifying glass to read the fine print of those rebate forms.

Almost bought a case yesterday that had a rebate, until looking closely, discovered the rebate ended 1/31. But the rebate info was still on the site.

Good luck.

- Bill

I purchased mine on the same date and got mine postmarked by the last allowable day. Based on what you put in your post it looks like you complied.

Keep fighting them. Did you make a copy of your stuff before mailing in?

I have had problems with rebateshq.com on an Outpost.com rebate.

Yes, making copies is always a good idea ... but ...

... was there an expiration date to the rebate offer?

Thank you everybody. The link of this rebate form is here, I don't see any fine print about the guideline postmark date of 12-30-2002. And the ending date was 12-24-2002.

http://images.officemax.com/pdf/2002_12/Cendyne2.pdf

My brother also purchased the same drive on the same date from Staples (but his invoice was dated Dec. 23, 2002, mine Dec. 24, 2002)and he mailed it in on the same date (Jan. 7, 2003). I check the status of it on the Staples website but it is still pending. Did anyone get refused for missing 1 day? That is my brother's case, he mailed in on Jan. 7, 2003. It was exactly on the 15th date. But they said that it was postmarked for Jan. 8, 2003. So he is missing it by a day.

Anyway, the guideline postmark date is absolutely wrong, it comes from nowhere.

samsonmqc, Cendyne rebates are a pain to get... I don't know why... but I read on another forum that Cendyne is slow to pay RebatesHQ with the rebate money. I waited 5 months (!!!!) for my 3 Cendyne rebates to come through, and I had to call them and they told me to wait another 3 weeks... and in the end it did come.
I strongly suggest calling 1-877-580-3348 and first be calm about the matter, if they refuse try to be a little more persuasive.... but NEVER loose your temper, it won't get you the rebate....
Good Luck!

I was within that 15 days limit. If they say that I have to be postmarked by 12-30-2002, the purchase date was 12-15-2002 instead of 12-24-2002. It is difficult to make that kind of typo error.

I was fed up after 2 inquiries and finally I wrote:
"What is the guideline postmark based on? On the rebate form it says that we have 15 days to mail in the rebate form. It was shipped to me on Dec. 24, 2002. So it means that I have 6 days to mail in the rebate form? If I don't have a satisfactory answer, I will write a letter to the local newspaper with a copy of the rebate form."

Newspaper always work and always make copies of your receipt, UPC code, and the rebate form.
And I received the following e-mail

"Thank you for your rebate inquiry. You are a valued PGI-Verbatim consumer, so we are pleased to inform you that we have updated your record as a one-time courtesy. Your rebate submission is now valid. Please allow 4-6 weeks to receive your rebate.
However about your concern regarding guidelines on postmark date, rebate submission request must be postmarked within 15 days of purchase."

They still don't admit that they made error.
Anyway, their responses were fast. We had 3 e-mail exchanges in a few hours.

And thanks again, everybody.
