Best Buy rebate help.

Just before Xmas my wife bought a Samsung 17" LCD monitor from Bestbuy for $550 less a $150 MIR. We sent all that was requested. Original receipt, original UPC and the serial number from the monitor itself. Today we received a letter of rejection, not actually stating the reason but giving a number of possible reasons. As far as we are concerned everything was correct. The only thing that i can think of is the original monitor box had a slash running through it and it actually ran through the UPC. I cut it out with a blade but it was in two halves which we had to tape together. Unfortunately i didn't buy it, my wife did as i would have asked for a different box. Anyhow, is this a legitimate reason to reject the rebate? Any advice what i should do from here as this is a significant amount. Thanks.

Welcome mrmacca:
I've had good luck with Best Buy / Samsung rebates in the past.

Do you have a copy of your receipt handy? If not, here's the numbers to call regarding your rebate from Best Buy:

1 - 888 -292 - 0667 "to check the status of your rebate"

1 - 800 - 849 - 0444 "to call the Best Buy rebate center"

Don't know what the diffrence is. . .

The UPC in two halves should not be a real issue. As long as you had your rebate receipt, rebate form, and UPC, all postmarked within the required time frame, there should be no problem.

I send in 30 - 40 rebates per year, and I still run into a problem now and then. You have to understand, they're not paying these folks any amt. of money that would make them "diligent".

I'm fighting a couple of rejected rebates now ; thery're only $5 and $15, and not really worth my time, but it's the principle of the thing!

You're right - $150 is a significant amount, and you need to pursue it. Call those numbers - be polite and professional, but also firm if you must.
Also, if you can't get proper resolution from the first person you talk to, ask to speak to a supervisor, and don't take no for an answer.

In the future, if you haven't done so already, make certain that you make copies of your receipts, the UPC, and the rebate form, for your records, and to have on hand, if you are ever asked to re-send info.

Hope this helps, good luck. . .

Oh, was that a single rebate, meaning , not part Best Buy, part Samsung? and who did the rejection notice come from? If it came from Samsung directly, you can check the Samsung rebate site.
But I would call those BB numbers above first. . .

Did you make a xerox copy of your rebate materials? If so, there should be an 800 number on the rebate form that you can call. They might have rejected it if the cut UPC didn't scan right. If you explain the situation to them, they may validate it and/or ask you to re-submit the information. Even if you didn't make a copy (do so in the future, especially for a rebate this big), give em a call and ask em what's up. If that doesn't work, you can go to the store and talk to the manager there, but Best Buy isn't the best store to work with in regards to stuff like this. (I've actually had a rebate from Officemax falsely rejected and was paid out of the drawer after the manager made a copy of my copy of what I sent in! )

Thanks for the replies. We do have copies of the original receipt. This was a single $150 rebate and the rejection came from The express group. Rebate Service center in MI. Is this Bestbuys own rebate service?

Hard to say, mr:

Looks like most retailers are starting to "farm" their rebates out to third parties. Staples used to be great w/ rebates - always got it in 4 weeks - now they farm it out to rebateshq, so now you're looking at 8 weeks or more.

At least Best Buy retains their 800 numbers to call.

Keep us posted as to your conversations with them, and good luck.
