They never sent me a cancellation notice, so I emailed them and they said they cancelled it. So I ragged on them a bit about the crappy customer service... blah blah blah ..

They came back with 20% off my previous quote. So my question is.

Is $455 still a good price for the DELL 2350 Desktop?

That's a fair deal, not fantastic. It's a nice machine for less than $500. If you're not planning to play high-end games, it will be more than adequate.

The difference between the 2350 and the 4550 is the front side bus on the 2350 is 400 mhz and it is 533 on the 4550 allowing for the faster pc2700 ram. Sale at crucial $113 for a 512 stick.

Also-NO AGP slot on the 2350! No fancy graphic cards allowed!
Maybe they will give you 20% off the 4550 identical configuration-price would be virtually the same-and you do get a medium quality graphics card as well as the faster memory

Correct, but again, unless you're planning to use this system for gaming, there's no need for a high-end graphics card or faster FSB and RAM.

Just to give an example, my mother-in-law, who didn't know and didn't bother asking, bought a very high end Gateway a couple years ago at a premium price. It's a great system but 95% of what she does is Word and AOL. So she paid about 50% more over a system that would have suited her perfectly well.
