I got cingular. It's 69.99/mo for two lines. Two free 3395 phones (virtually the same as the 3390, except you get one more free game (Pinball), and I think about 10-20% longer battery time.
Larger capacity battery also adds a few ounces, and even if you get the 3390, you can just buy the battery seperate if you really needed it.)
Its 850 anytime plan with 3500 Nights and weekends. AND rollover minutes for the anytime minutes, although I dont know if thier offering that anymore.
I used to use Voicestream, the former T-Mobile, but I hated not having night minutes, since thats when I did a good deal of my long calls anyways. With cingular, you dont use up your anytime minutes when you call after 9pm, but just use up the N&W minutes, which you get a bunch of.
Also, with the rollover, anything you dont use outside of the N&W minutes, rolls over to the next month, up to 12 months accruing, and also gets used up first-in-first-out (If you go over your normal minutes, the ones that got accrued the earliest get used up first). Also, 3500 minutes is just as practical as unlimited weekends for me, but the night minutes is what really turned me away from voicestream and to cingular.
Can only call from metro area without roaming, which is about 3 states wide for me..theres also a 600 nationwide plan, where you can call from anywhere in the US without roaming charges. I'm pretty much staying put between the NJ/NY/PA, so i took metro plan with the 250 extra minutes; I can still call anyone in the US without extra charges.
Worst part about cingular is that text messages are not free. You either prepay $3/mo for 100 or 10c each. I think 50 are included a month with T-Mobile.
Also voicestreams reception used to be atrocious, but after Voicestream became T-Mobile, they started sharing most of cingulars towers, so the reception on the two services should be virtually identical now.
Basically, if the plan offerings in your area are like mine, cingular is a better choice if you:
- Stay in your area so you can get the extra minutes of getting an area plan over a nation plan
- Use a good part of your minutes at night
- A seasonal user - I usually go over near the end of the school year, during the summer, and over any breaks. I use it very sparsely during the rest of the year. Now I'm covered for the summer because I have so many minutes rolled over during the school year, and will probably never have to pay overage again.
T-Mobiles better if you:
- Travel the US alot
- Don't use many of your minutes at night.
- Talk more than 3500 minutes on the phone during the weekends.
I signed up with Cingular about 4-5 months ago, so somethings may have changed since then.
-EDIT
Looks like they did change..a good deal too
Now its 1000 anytime and 5000 N&W for the same price. They also have a "superhome" calling area, for the same price, which goes all the way down through delaware. Also, thier now offering either a Samsung phone for free, or Nokia 3590's for free after $50MIR.
