Notebook Savings (on Ebay)
My sister has just won an auction on Ebay for a Toshiba Satellite 1955-S803. The selling price was $1600. Amazon has these for $2300. The seller is called Notebook Savings. They seem to operate only on Ebay, Google does not turn up any other references for them. http://www.notebooksavings.com
Being a born skeptic, I started looking through their feedback. Based only on the numbers, the store looks pretty good. But when you read the feedback, there is a disturbing trend of complaints about how long it took the seller to deliver. Many people seem to have simply requested refunds after lengthy delays.
Anyone have any dealings with these people. They're located in Morristown, NJ. Some of the feedback mentions a store called Flexico, maybe they operated under that name previously.

Want my true opinion?
Get a deal thru staples or dell. Not worth the risk and aggravation dealing with such peeps.
Once you pay them, you have to chase them daily.
Unless they are prepared to ship COD.

Well, there's nothing on either company in RR. I have never heard of either of them.
In their eBay store, their feedback has 10 negatives. Researching the people giving negatives gives me what I would consider: --9 viable negatives --1 unreliable negatives --several positives given that still complain about the extreme delays in shipping
It seems like he is honest, but has no problem waiting 3-4 months before shipping. Heck, I could sell a laptop at today's price and wait 3 months to buy it at the reduced cost and then ship it and make a fortune. Personally, I would not buy from this guy.

Something seems strange about them. Notice how almost every single auction they have running is in the double digit bid totals. Plus you notice too that the auctions are listed as private auctions, meaning you can't see the other bidders. Makes me wonder if something is going on that shouldn't be....

Dave, that's exactly what I was thinking. The guy sells a laptop for a fantastic price, waits a month to order it and has it drop-shipped to the buyer. So two things are happening. The item sold is depreciating, so the price isn't that great. And he has a cash-flow situation that permits him to sell stuff and use the cash to fulfill previous orders. If for any reason the cash starts to dry up, the most recent buyers are SOL.
Maybe a call to the local BBB is in order.

Wow! I sure wouldn't order from them. 30 days is a long time, and it sounds like they take longer than that sometimes.
I just got a 1.7ghz Compaq w/15" TFT, 256mb/DVD for $650 after rebates and coupon through Staples.
Why mess with this guy? Yeah, I guess if you want a nicer system, but I'd rather have the Compaq in hand than the promise of a VAIO in a few months. Heck, there are MLM plans to get a laptop for $5 if you're looking for an even better price.
Notice that many people gave the same complaint: "Item backordered." makes me wonder if that really means: Item has not dropped in price enough to make a profit

I should add that I was burned by an online auction so I'm maybe a little more skeptical than most. But the place I dealt with was running a similar operation. Offering "No reserve" auctions, so the prices were really tempting, but with lengthy delays in shipment. Eventually, the shipment delays got worse, the negative feedback started to kill their auctions, the money coming in couldn't keep up, and they filed for bankruptcy.

DO NOT PAY FOR THIS ITEM. ALL THE SIGNS ARE THERE, BIG TROUBLE! ONCE YOU PAY THEN THE BATTLE BEGINS AND THERE IS NO GUARANTEE YOU'LL EVER GET THE LAPTOP OR YOUR MONEY. CATCH ONE ON SALE AT STAPLES AND SAVE SOME MONEY AND A LOT OF PROBLEMS.

Seems incredibly odd how the vast majority of the buyers have less than ten transactions to their names.
I'm agreeing with Shahani, get it through Staples. You can often get great deals, easy to work with, and no threat of being ripped off.
