Any 19" monitor recommendations?

I'm looking at buying a Sony HMD-A440 ($400 - $50 Sony rebate) this coming weekend. I looked at the Samsung 955DF and the Sony just blows it away. Just wondering if anyone had any other suggestions before I spend the ca$h. It'll be used primarily for gaming, but also for A/V editing and surfing.

Well I've got the Samsung 955DF you mentioned and have been really happy with it. Something tells me that my recommendation won't mean much to you though..

I have heard quite a few times that the Trinitron monitors have noticeable bars on the top and bottom of the screen. I don’t know about the new monitors though or maybe it was isolated with only a few models maybe someone can clarify it.

The Samsung does look good. Actually I went to the store to buy it, but saw it and the Sony side-by-side and couldn't believe the difference. Had I not seen the Sony I would have bought the Samsung and I would probably have been very happy with it.

Right now I'm using a lousy Compaq 14" monitor that I pulled out of the dumpster. Anything will be an improvement.

I'll look for the bars when I go back. That would drive me nuts.

The Trinitrons do have thin black lines about 1/3 from the top and bottom, but they're only noticeable against a white background, like when you're using a word processor or Explorer. Other than that, the picture quality is superb.

From what ive heard the part of the screen that has them is just a little darker. Allot of people just get used to them though.

Never mind on that, I just read the other posts. Those bars are there as that is how the monitor scan works. It scans in three seperate segments instead of one pass for the whole screen.
