http://www.pricewatch.com/

looks like around 176ish is the cheapest you can get.... it also depends on what format you want....

I was in OfficeMax yesterday. They had a Cendyne 4X -R/-RW for $180 after rebate. I believe the Cendyne is a rebadged Pioneer.

BTW, anyone wanna take a stab at which format will win the war, -R or +R? Seems I see a lot more +R burners and media on the market.

I got the Cendyne deal and it was delivered a few days ago. It was $161 after rebate including tax and the extra coupon on the Internet. Check out spoofee.com if you missed the deal.

I am building my PC this weekend and I will let you all know how it turns out next week.

My vote is for -R

DVD-R media is really cheap and more common than DVD+R media. DVD-R is also more compatable with standalone DVD players (which is going to determine what wins the -R vs. +R war)

So -R is already playable on dvd players? what's the real difference between - and +? Compression? Well might as well go for a -R. Thanks!

Does any one know if either -R or +R will play on a PS2? I want to know if I make a DVD if it will play on my PS2.

All of my friends that make backups of their legally owned PS2 software use -R.

For DVD players www.vcdhelp.com has a table of which players are compatible with +R or -R.

Yeah I agree with Jeff,
-R I think will win out. It really comes down to economics, not the quality. +R is a faster burn right now, but -R is still more compatible; and more importantly it's MUCH cheaper.

Oh and J-Excel, you are right, the Cendyne's use rebadged Pioneers... I've got one and I love it

Anyone seen any good deals on the Sony DRU-500A? I'm thinking about buying one but the cheapest I've seen it for is ~$320...
