Sister wants a Macintosh, advice needed

She has worked in the school system as a teacher for some 3 decades, there are some proggys that Mac's use she needs.

Problem is that inexpensive Macs are hard to find, she don't need a new unit.

Ouch, $279 for a Mac comparable to a $90 Dell Optiplex. And no keyboard.

Doc, do you think buying a Mac is a good purchase? We know two families that bought Macs because they thought, oh, they'll be compatible with what the kids are using at school. Both found within a year or so that they should have bought a PC, the software selections were just too limited. And then, within another year, our middle and high schools all switched to PCs. My Emily, 5th grade, uses a Mac at school and has an old Compaq at home and uses either well.

And of course, I'm completely impartial on the subject.

279$ probably aint a bad price for a machine that orignally cost 2799$---does she have room for an iMac? Lots of those are layin around unused, do you have access to a publication like the "Recycler"? ( www.recycler.com ) Maybe try looking for a local MUG (Mac users group) there are 100's of them, they always are resurrecting older machines and may be a good source for a used Mac---how bout a Mac emulator for her PC to run those few Apple based programs if possible???

Hey TKOP, look at the time stamp on this.

I posted a link the same as yours TKOP, when I saw yours I hit edit and typed the line above. The funny thing is that my original post was outside the white reply box in the grey area. When I hit save changes all that was saved was the line i had just typed.

What happeneed there?

Cheers
