Half.com and ebay; should I even bother?!?!
I am building a PC. I have been looking for a great company to buy components from and I think I willl probably go with newegg. However, does anyone out there usually go with ebay or half.com? Is it even worth the bother to go through them? Or, should I just purchase everything from newegg?

Well, I've bought a stick of ram, some fans and some IDE cables off of ebay with great success!
I wouldn't buy anything that was more expensive then those items though, such as CPUs, Motherboards, Drives, etc....
just go with newegg.com for those... Or all of it.
Directron.com is a place that I've had good experience with too.
It just all seems like a great deal on ebay, but after shipping, etc. It always seems like I only save a couple of dollars. For a couple of dollars, I'd rather buy from a nice reputable store like Newegg.

Is this post some lame way to get referrals for your Laptop link? I am no moderator - but this seems shady. If you want help - don't try and scam people into referring for you. Don't act like Sprint please...
AND to answer your question - ebay and half.com seem unreliable (especially for DOA items) and warranties aren't garenteed. Stick to a reputable online retailer (newegg is a good choice)

It is against the forum rules, that's why jrock spoke against it. You are not allowed to post for profit or referral URLs...it is in the FAQ.

I wouldn't buy anything expensive from Ebay or Half.com, mostly due to the fact that you don't really get a warranty and you don't know how things are going to be shipped.
I really didn't like Half.com when I purchased a NIC through it because I couldn't find a way to talk to the seller besides filing a fraud report. They should give you the seller's email address, or at least have a good messaging system.
I agree with jrock, your sig does seem like advertising which is prohibited.. From the FAQ: Quote: |

You have to manually input a signature in every post.

I have bought and sold tons of stuff on eBay and Half.com. I got great deals on stuff like books, CDs, Fender guitar and Peavey amp, etc. But, I have found that when you include shipping you will end up paying more on eBay for computer stuff than you would by using www.pricewatch.com and resellerratings.com to weed out the cruddy ones.
Or, just rely on newegg.com, TCWO.com, and some of the others.

There are some good deals on ebay, but unless you're buying a whole system from there, how much time are you willing to spend hunting and tracking.
My last "build-from-scratch" was almost entirely purchased from newegg - save a couple of special items they don't carry. (This was last summer.) I shopped around a lot, but I didn't want to get pieces from everywhere and when I summed the whole thing up, newegg was the best. They need to rethink their shipping costs on small items and large $ orders though. Multiwave Direct has also been good for me. Coolerguys.com is a good source for fans and case mod items. YMMV.
