I got some great experience with eBay so far. It happens that the shipping is slowed or overpriced, but I believe that you should get insurance for your package no matter what shipping method you use. Just make sure to ask all questions, see how the seller responds and be skeptical when the price is too good to be true. Most of my transactions were fine. Just 2 transactions went bad (1. never made a deal, 2. lost item on shipping...)
My biggest purchase was a MP3 CD player (iRiver SlimX iMP-350) on eBay (about $150) and I get it within a week.
I would only buy stuff when it's a good deal. Often, you have to wait if you want a item (unless you want a popular item on your computer).
Also, are you new to eBay? Some sellers doesn't like 0 feedback members (particularly if you want to buy some expense items). You should also be careful about 0 feedback seller (sometimes, it's worth the risk because there's less bids on the item and sometimes, it could be some fraud...).
