need good laptop deal for $1000 or less.

Hopefully a little less.

here is what I need...helping some friends get a laptop.

They prefer a Dell..prefer Pentium4

So roughly these specs

P4@ around 1.5ghz and up
256DDR
30g hd and up
XP Home
CDRW and DVD

Of course any extras like Corel wordperfect pack would be nice.

Do most of the dells have 14" screens or do they also have 15" available...if so they may want to go with 15".

So that is what I need help finding...I havent been checking prices for about 3 weeks so I am out of the loop pricewise and coupon wise. Are there any good coupons for Dell right now??

Any help will be much appreciated.

JP

I find no deals on a Dell lappy right now, looking at $1g+ for your config.

I gather they've not seen benchmarks on the P4, pretty sad compared to the XP processor.
This may vary greatly on "mobile" chips, I've not seen direct comparisons on them.

Did you see the HP with the AMD lappy at Staples ?
$50 coupon [minimum]
$100 rebate

$1089 inc shipping after !00 mir and $50 off

Are you saying that Dell puts athlons in laptops?

they sort of have a strong feeling that they want a dell and I told em a celeron wasnt really ideal so they want the p4.

How often does Dell have laptop deals or good coupons etc...cuz basically I told em that good deals come around every couple weeks or so...they will be glad if I can get them hooked up in that time period...hope I can.

Benchmarks??? hehe, they have been using a 75mhz laptop with 16m ram for about 4 years, it takes about 5 or 6 minutes to fully boot...i think a p4 will be fine! lol.

The XP is in a HP
No AMD's in Dell AFAIK.

Lappy's seem to be dropping in the last quarter, maybe this will continue or they may have been clearing old stock.

These $600's lappys are very rare, only seen it during one month.

Dells like you want have not dropped below a grand that I've ever seen.

one advantage to waiting is the CPU's will grow each month. Standard seems to be 1.7g now

Hang loose, lappy markest should be slow till august, maybe more deals will appear.

John Prophet, you missed the laptop "deals" by a couple months. For almost three or four ad weeks in a row, both CompUSA and BestBuy were advertising the Toshiba S103 for the low after-rebate price of $600. But my honest opinion is that you get what you pay for. You want a laptop under $1000. Every time I hear people ask for this, I LMAO because they also say that they want a Pentium 4 with "lots of memory" and "lots of hard drive space." Beggars can't be choosers. And I hope you don't take that to heart, because I don't mean it to offend you. I just want to point it out.

Neither CompUSA or BestBuy has any plans to blow out any laptops yet. New lines have already begun to be demo'd at my CompUSA, and all our S173 and S103 notebooks have been long gone.
