Good deal? Notebook

Is this a good deal?

Compaq Evo N600c Pentium 3 1.2GHz 30GB 256MB DVD/CDRW 14.1TFT XP Pro/Win 2000

$999.00

Its a DUAL booter. All include for $999.99 and its 1 inch thick only 4.8 pounds.

Im not sure how good of a notebook it is, but am interested in buying (I hope they don't sell out)

And wen you put something in your cart, does that RESERVE it 4 you?

Devildude:

I can't really comment on whether this is a good deal, but I do have a comment to offer. My military unit has some of the thin Compaq laptops (not sure of the exact model), that look very similar to this.

Please keep in mind that the floppy and CDROM are both external. It's a real pain if you forget to attach them prior to booting.

Best of luck with your purchase ...

Dana

Ummmmm I took the PRODUCT TOUR at hp/copaq.com and It was like a 3d view of it and showed the dvd/cdrw as onboard. Actually now that i think of it I am almost possitive becuase one of the features was to be able to slide out the Optical drve (dvd/cdrw)

I wouldn't say it's a bad deal, but I think you can get more for your money. Do a search on the forum for laptops and you'll see what I mean.

If time's not an issue I'd wait for a good deal. We have a great number of excellent bargain hunters here at Techimo!!

You can get more for your money. I would shop around a little more. Watch www.staples.com for a few weeks. They offer really great deals on laptops from time to time. Get a p4 and ddr, you won't regret it.

I just got a Dell inspirion but I find the p4 1.7 Ghz the same speed as my desktop p3 677mhz! I thought this was a pretty good deal after checking out eopinions.com and the cheapest prices on this laptop. I like it since it is so small and It looks better than the inspirion 2650.

I live in Canada so most of those deals involve rebates and its too much of a hassle for me to pretend to be a US resident and have the rebates shipped to my american address (if I ever get em)

This one doesn't invole rebates, thats a good thing.

I just hope I get the Inspirion 2650 $300 rebate !!!

I ordered one already and If I find a better deal on a notebook I will buy it and list the compaq in the locale classified paper (buy&sell).

Notebooks are very expensive here in Canada so I will be able to make some cash on it easy, i think.

Thanks for the opinions though.

My current dell has DDR and my desktop has PC133, I don't think there is a difference... What do you look for? Will faster memory crash less or freeze less?

Thanks
