Circuit City Warning: Brooklyn NY
I am not big on posting, but felt I needed to warn others of a situation at
the new Circuit City "Gateway" store (#3663) in Brooklyn, New York. I
purchased the Toshiba 5205-S703 in what appeared to be a factory sealed box.
When I got it home, the machine in the box was NOT the S703, but a model
which costs considerably less. I immediately called the store and was told
to bring it right back for an exchange- by the time I got there, they had
changed their mind and told me that they would have to conduct an
investigation first! Imagine! I ended up calling my credit card company to
put an immediate hold on any payment and will of course follow up with a
letter. But the real shame here is the treatment I got at the store. Yes,
I can appreciate their point of view, but I left feeling like a criminal
with a computer they would not accept as a return and a very bad taste in my
mouth for both Circuit City and Toshiba. Shame on you Circuit City.

<G> Glad I'm 3000 miles away from that store !!!!
Sorry to here about your trouble though .... I hate it when I'm treated badly by a vendor. Makes me look for greener pastures.
Thanks for the warning. My grandma usta always say, "a happy customer will tell 3 people how pleased he is, but a mad customer will tell 300 people how mad he is."
Welcome to TechIMO.

Our local Circuit City has been guilty of some pretty shady things too. A good number of their mail-in rebates turn out to be worthless because they mis-mark merchandise. I've also bought a box there that had the wrong product inside, and one with missing activation codes.
Now I make them open boxes & verify the contents before I walk out.
They don't like to do it --- it's like they get offended that I don't "trust" them; but it's only a fraction of what they put me through when I made returns.
PS: Best Buy is right next store to them, & I've had the same type of problems there too.
Cadd.

Sorry to hear you guys have problems, try Circuit City here in TN *grin* I have had no problems and the two items I had rebates on (both double rebates monitor with a 50 and 30 rebate and blank cds with 12 and 10 rebate) I received the cash no problem. Everything I have bought is fine and Im happly with my ream of 50 blank CDs for 2 dollars and my 17" monitor for 89 dollars. So what Im like the guy in the advert Just because I get all happy and run into store with my wife groaning doesnt make me that bad of a person and a CC clone *LOL*

have to agree with you on CC there, bought a five speaker set for my pc and got home and the ac jack was loose, called the store and they told me to contact the manufacturer, did and was told to return it to the store, Took it in and after being denied by the sale manager for a return because it had been opened, was force to rig it to work. Store would not honor my return because it was bought out of state and was opened. Same store and how was I to know that it had a bad jack when it was closed?
Circuit city has no Customer Service at all and has lost all future business from me. I have one a block from my place and I drive 40 minutes to get to a Best Buy to avoid them.
Welcome to Techimo

Had something similar happen to me twice at best buy. The first was a sound card, got it home, and there was a burned out AGP card in the darn static bag! Took it back, no biggee...swapped me for the real thing. But the last one was different...bought an Antec PSU for an emergency repair, got it home, and it didn't have a switch on the darn thing. Well, I quickly put it right back in the box, and when I take it to return, further inspection (by the girl behind the counter, then myself) reveals it's not even an Antec. Not sure what it was because it's previous owner had removed the sticker from it (guess I'm blinder than I thought, because it was obviously not even the Antec on the box, missing an entire fan, and the one it had was silver not brass colored...etc).
But anyway, long story short, I wind up waiting for twenty freagin' minutes while she chats with several employees about wether or not they're going to even let me trade it.
And so now I'm left insulted after they're the ones that tried to rob me (not deliberately, but ironic, eh?)
And ya know what else. I think these things are happening because they're reboxing returns & refurbished as new. How else can a non-creative video card wind up in a creative audio card box! And a dirt-cheap PSU in an Antec. And both these boxes were sealed just like they would be had they been new...and being sold as new as well.
Some employee theft at the MFG??? Doubt it...more like crooked shelves.

Well, I think it goes also to poor support.
If someone returns an item for a bait and switch, not you, but some unscrupulous person, they (the store clerks) usually don't check the item.
All it takes is that store clerk to let the suspect merchandise in. It never gets checked probably, but does get re-shrinkwrapped and put out for purchase.
You then buy it and return it. Then because you are the innocent party, Murphy's Law kicks in and you get the one alert clerk, who questions the merchandise.
