how can they be selling their stuff so much cheaper than everyone else? I know they run fast and error free, possibly more so than any other brand, so if I had to guess I'd say they run hotter or louder or something.

Lite-On actually makes their own drives while most other manufacturers do not.

In a lot of cases they are buying from Lite-On and putting their name on them.

Lite-On can be cheaper 'cause they can spare the advertising and don't have to pay another company's markup to buy the drives in the first place.

I especially like Lite-On drives because they tend to be quiet.
