Running hot

Hi.

I currently am running a system build by ABS PC. I got my PC (AMD Athlon XP 2200+) in their standard case (INWIN S506 with a 300W PSU), but have been having cooling issues with it. Namely, my CPU runs at an average of 145F (with CpuIdle running). I am told that this is above average.

Are there any simple solutions to lower my CPU temp.?
Also, are any other ABS customers having this problem?

*Michael

perhaps

A better heatsink and fan
AMD has a tendency to run hot
Might try an orb fan or it may be
as simple as installing another case
fan in the front or rear of case.
If no holes are in that unit for additional fans
there are fans made to fit in pci slots.

I agree with Sevenal. You need to make sure that the fans are drawing air THROUGH the case too...I can literally feel my case pulling air in through the front air slots. It runs around 50C.

I have just recently ordered 2 80mm Sunon ultra-high-speed case fans - one for the front (currently I have an intake fan in the front, but it's really weak) and one for the rear. Do you think these 2 would be sufficient in lowering the temp. significantly?

I plan on making the front-fan intake and the rear-fan blow air out...

Thoughts?

I hope the db doesn't kill you on those high speed fans.. a few low speed fans would be good enough in most cases..

you should really replace your heatsink.. if this is the retail heatsink, and fan.. it isn't going to be enough.. get something like the Cooler Masters HHC-001 with heat pipes..

personally I run thi heatsink.. I understand why most ppl rate it number one.. I'm running a overclocked xp in the mid to lower 40c.. Also get some Arctic Silver 3 to put between your new heatsink.. and cpu.. If you have never put on a heatsink.. take it to a computer shop.. and get them to do it.. may cost you a few bucks.. but if u haven't done it before.. better safe then sorry..

My cpu ran so hot that is shut down after 20 min or watching a DVD or playing a game. I had a nice big aluminum case too. Your best bet is to change out the heatsink/fan, and put those new fans in. It will help immensly. How many fans can your case take? Also - you might want to put in a PCI slot fan...they're under ten bucks, and they helped cool my video card really well.

Good luck and keep us posted!
