Right... but the machine I need to connect this stupid Astra 1200S to is Win98. Definitely no built-in drivers.

Glad I bought Epson! I've downloaded the drivers maybe 10 times after various reformats! They have great driver support! (Not to mention it is free :P )

I agree that its dumb to have to pay for drivers and all the extra bundled crap with it, they should make you pay for the extra software programs and all but the drivers aswell? They should just have those for dl. No one wants the extra junk they bundle with it anyways.

I just went to the UMAX UK website, and, contrary to The Register's story, they attempt to charge £4.99 for driver CDs. If you punch in certain models in the driver download section, you get "The driver version shipping with the scanner is the latest one available.", and you have to buy the CD.
