Oh, yeah...

4. I've been waiting for 35 years for them to make a good movie version of LOTR. I can wait a couple more years for the really good DVD set

When I mentioned the extended version, I didn't mean to collector's version. Nice looking book ends are ... nice... but I don't see a reason to blow $30 extra on them. Now, if they had packaged a limited edition copy of the fellowship of the ring book, I probably would pay for it, but alas.

Who is buying the collector's edition?

The book is a nice idea, but the extended, never before scene scenes, and sych wqould be cool also. But I'm with Cadd on this one. After the release of the #3 movie, the Box Set will be awesome

Plus ya can prolly buy it in the latest Digital Format, (DVD may be obsolete )

3 years? I don't think dvds will be obsolete. DVDs are going to around for a while, if for no other reason than their availability. Manufacturers are already pumping them out in huge quantities and they are replacing vcrs. Sure, there are better things out there now..... but who is going to mass produce the equipment? Will consumers be willing to buy ANOTHER toy every year? DVDs aren't leaving anytime soon.

The extended cut version is on the LOTR website as a preorder for $29.95, the whole schmeer gift set, which I'll probably pass on, is $70.

Been a fan forever too, and once even went so far as to write some music for a 27 hour series of flix that never got off the ground. I'll buy this one and the others, too, just for the goodies and the extended version.

I'm not even a big movie fan, video fan, heck I barely watch TV period, but this is just a fave.

I don't think they will do to much extra on the final box set.. maybe a art book or something else that you can find elsewhere extra.. but u wont see a full box set for 3 years or so.. movie 2 is this year.. that means the dvd wont be out till next year.. and with hope movie 3 will be ready by then.. but it wont be coming out on dvd till the next following year.. a complete box set might be ready by Christmas of that year.. but more likely next year.. so we are looking at around 2 or so years.. I'm sorry.. I don't think I will wait myself.. I may be dead in 2 years.. and I'd like to enjoy the boxset out now.. =) you can't hope there is a tomorrow all the time..

I'll probably buy the fanciest set available. In 2 years. When the real collector's edition set becomes available. It could be $300 by then, of course. So what?

Whoa! Back in '71 I wrote music for the dirge of Boromir as a project in Junior College. I guess I'm not the only fan here
