It makes no sense to go multiple places to order parts you will just end up spending any money you saved on shipping. It makes much more since to buy everything from one place with a decent shipping rate even if one or two of the parts is a little bit more expensive than you could get it elsewhere. In the end the overall cost with shipping will be cheaper. Newegg.com has the best overall price for this very reason.

sure if you don't do it all at once. However if you are just upgrading an existing system piece meal thats fine. If you are building an entire system though just save the money until you have enough to buy it all at once you will spend less money that way. Also most people that order online arent ordering from stores that are in there local area that they can just walk in and get the part. If they are then you get charged something else called sales tax which can sometimes cost you more than shipping.

Dourden, not all places give you a break on shipping combined orders. NewEgg, one of my favorites, doesn't (although sometimes they have specials on shipping costs for individual items). On the other hand, places like buy.com and Outpost , though usually not the cheapest, from time to time offer free shipping on larger orders. That can make the difference.

You might look at TCWO and Multiwave (a.k.a. mwave) as well.

Sorry, but that's not quite true. I love Newegg, and they're always my first choice for purchasing, but they DO NOT give you any shipping breaks for purchasing multiple items. It says shipping is $5 for a floppy drive? Then that's exactly what shipping will be for the floppy, regardless if you get 2,000 floppy drives or buy a whole system.

Another thing to point out... people often complain that Newegg has terribly high shipping rates. That's also not entirely true. Newegg just doesn't offer as low-class shipping as most places do. Newegg's lowest level of shipping is 3-day saver express. On other sites where I've checked costs for that same shipping option, it usually costs more.

Actually if you watch what you are ordering from newegg. Most of the higher dollar higher weight items are free shipping. When putting together whole systems from them I haven't really ever been charged more than 30$ for the whole thing. (minus case & monitor of course that always cost too much to ship I just buy it locally.)

I just ordered a full server tower (Antec 1080) from newegg and shipping was only 15 bucks. I thought that was pretty damn good....btw I also ordered Corsair XMS pc2700 and Asus A7V8X and they were both free shipping got it all in 2 days.

cheap

In almost every case you get what you pay for....there's a difference between cheap and inexpensive.

I just built my 1st computer and took time finding good parts and I wait for free shipping deals , I like http://www.googlegear.com best prices on cpu's and usually just as cheap as newegg but with free shipping , I also like http://www.nexfan.com for cooling & cabling needs . I bought my windows xp home edition @ http://www.maximpc.com , took a while but good price & product .
Video card from http://www.sybercom.com , I bought a cdrom & cd-r media from http://www.wiredzone.com , really fast shipper & great prices . Got my 19" monitor on sale from amazon.com with free shipping . Hard drives and "good" memory are much cheaper when they run those rebate deals , like one dollar per gig for hdd's , most of the time in store @ bestbuy or officemax ... etc . Of course I bought some items from newegg.com , just keep checking you'll find great deals this time of year , good luck .
