YourFreeLaptop.com

I am continuing my little crusade against this operation. Yes, several thousand people have been scammed but there's still time to prevent others from being sucked in.

This was originally posted here:
http://www.techimo.com/forum/t37814.html

The woman that runs this scam also runs a site called Learn2Compute.net. It was founded by an Elizabeth Comeau in 2002 and is located in West Hartford, CT. I guess business was slow so she decided to stoke the income with this little pyramid scheme. This woman has spent quite a bit of time signing up for message boards geared toward women, under a variety of names, then posting the information about YourFreeLaptop.com in a message ("Hey, girls, look what I found!"). To join her little Learn2Compute.net club costs (surprise!) $29.

She has been taking out advertisements on several inexpensive sites, just search yourfreelaptop or learn2compute on Google and see for yourself. However, I have been e-mailing these sites asking them to remove the ads, and letting them know what I think of this little deal. MOST of them have removed the ads (although they still get residual hits on Google).

Of course, like all pyramid schemes, this one will eventually collapse under its own weight. Unfortunately, many, many people will have kissed their money goodbye before this happens, and Elizabeth Comeau will have netted several tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars.

What I would like is to ask others to spread the word to other message boards. The more we get the word out about what this woman is doing, the faster the scam will implode onto itself.

Well each person that upsteps and battles one scheme like JnHayes is doing, at the same time he is educating others about this thing and in turn someone else just like jnHayes will join in to shut others down.

Keep at it!! We don't need scumbags like yourfreelaptop.com places around here.

Update!!

Now, if you do a Google search for Yourfreelaptop, the FIRST listing is one of my posts on Dell|Talk:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...=Google+Search

Unfortunately, this was posted on a message board that they clear out every couple of days. So the message is not there. But it's in the search results!!

Well don't forget that google has the thread cached, so people who really want to can still see it here at the top of the listings.

JnMHayes,

Nice work. I searched ebay for "How to get free" and I find 4 pages of auctions that sell information about getting free laptops, monitors, pdas, etc. I complained to ebay about such auctions. They don't seem to do much about it. Is there a way of stopping all these "ladder" auctions?

I know .. I have been looking to buy a Ibook and its pain to sort through all the "fake" auctions that are not selling anything just "information" on how to get free items. Yea right.

Fourth on the list when I did the Google search you listed was this:

http://testaccount.on-site.de/links/links.htm

Never seen this before. It's a page where you can simply add whatever link you want to. Needless to say, it looks like what hell must look like if Satan was a spammer.
