Socket 370 recommendations

Well I'm 99% sure that the mobo on my Slackware box just died a couple days ago and I'm looking for an inexpensive replacement. I don't need anything special and would prefer a board that doesn't have onboard sound, vid, or lan. I just want the basics. It needs to support a 950 celeron, 2X AGP, ATA66 and (hopefully) have 3 , or more, PC133 memory slots. I'd also prefer a full sized ATX over a mini.

It definitely needs to be able to run Slackware, Debian and BSD. The only purpose this box has is to learn on so if it won't support those it will serve no purpose to me.

Right now I'm currently considering this

http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=P6VAP-APLUS

even though it does have onboard sound but I'll take any suggestions you might have. If anyone knows that this board won't support the OS's mentioned above please let me know.

I'd like for the board to be under $60 shipped since I'm not doing anything heavy duty with it but will consider spending more if need be.

Thanks again for any suggestions you might have. I'd really like to get this box running again soon.

Shawn

Scott, I mean, Shawn:
Did you add to your post, or did I just not read all of it??
I saw some good cheap deals at www.compgeeks.com
When I looked yesterday they had some good 370 deals.
Read the "legend" as you will want to get a new vs. refurbished
board, which they occasionally carry also. They have an ECS and
a Gigabyte at this time, for around $30. Here's the link:
Hope this helps.

Thanks bill1971! They didn't have that listed the last time I checked. That Gigabyte is almost exactly what I was looking for. Looks like that should be common enough to be supported by Linux so I'm going to order it tonight..

Thanks again!

You're welcome,Shawn.
I order from them on occasion. They only dropped the ball once,
but made it right.
You might need to add extra shipping to get it by Monday.(This
upcoming weekend is Labor Day weekend, isn't it??
I'm unemployed, so I don't keep up with holidays!! Everyday's
a holiday to me! Ha!!
Good luck.

Shawn, let me see what I personally have on hand. . .

I have a new QDI Advance 10F+, Apollo Pro 133A chipset
(694X Northbridge, 686B Southbridge)
No on-board anything. 1-4x AGP, 5-PCI, incl. 1-shared ISA

I know nothing about this brand, but picked it up for just such
an occasion, when someone needed one.

Look around, and PM me if you can't find anything else.Check
Doc's Epox recommendation above.I'm quite fond of Epox
boards, but the QDI only cost me $30 + shipping.
Let me know.

Here ya go, I found one, and it's an Abit w/ Intel 815 chipset for
$32 + ship:

thanks bill1971 but I just got the ECS from computergeeks.com. I've got to admit that the abit you just posted looked nice though! I was really liking the Gigabyte that you originally posted but so much for that. And thanks for offering the QDI from your personal collection.

Doc thanks for the recommendation that you made. When I first saw your post all it said was "oops" so that's why I was asking what you meant.

All I'm asking is that the board run Linux and such in a stable fashion. Hopefully I won't run into too many problems..

Thanks again guys.. I'll let you knw how it goes..
