bill1971, have you ever bought anything from http://store.yahoo.com/justdeals/index.htm ? Some of their deals look pretty strong! I might have to frequent that site some more since another Linux box would be a nice thing to have! Once memory prices come back down that might be a nice option...

Again, thanks for everyone's help!

Glad you got a board,Shawn:

Just curious as to what are the mobo requirements needed to run Linux and the other OS's?? I'm confused a little, and haven't
delved into Linux yet, so I'm ignorant about this connection
between the OS and the board. . .
Thanks.

I've ordered from www.JustDeals.com a couple of times in the past, and they came through. I haven't checked resellerratings
for them in awhile though.

Hardware requirements for Linux are really low actually. It's just that sometimes you'll find hardware that will give you trouble. I went looking on ECS's website and found Linux drivers (really old drivers actually, but the board is old too) for the modem and onboard sound so I'm assuming they intend for you to run 'nix on it.

As far as what I was looking for in the way of components - well, I was just looking for things I remember seeing as choices when recompiling my kernel. If it looked fimiliar and I don't remember seeing the word EXPERIMENTAL beside it then I assume it's well supported. I'm thinking, okay hoping, that a board of this vintage will be easily supported by recent kernel releases.

Thats good to hear that you had good luck with the yahoo site. I was looking pretty hard at some of the stuff they've got for sale. That looks like a good place to build up a third box for a small bit a cash...

Thanks for the explanation, and good luck once again.
I think about a year ago I bought a discounted retail-boxed
Mandrake 7.0(?)
Is this a good place to start for a Linux newbie??
Thanks
