EBay
BEWARE!!! Ebay is a rip. I have purchased ("Bid") several items at ebay, and so just a warning to anyone using their site. Everything was O.K. with ebay until I received defective merchandise. Forget about a refund. Forget about returning the item, and forget about contacting them. I have filed complaints with them directly, and with the BBB, and the Attorney General's office. Ebay does not care, nor will they even acknowledge my complaint.
So be careful folks. Ebay is bad news.

Funny.......... that's not been my experience.
Over 300 trades...... no problems........ pretty darn good if ya ask me. As far as defective merchandise goes...... you need to contact the seller..... not ebay. When "bidding/buying" on ebay...it is a very good idea to review the sellers past history......and determine if you feel comfortable with buying from them.
I have bought and sold on ebay and find it works very well......... but that's my opinion........ your welcome to yours.

ebay
I'm glad your experience with ebay was good. I did review the seller before bidding, and they had good ratings, but after I won the bid and got jerked around on the time it took to receive the merchandise and went back to the ebay site, I found that ebay had "blocked" the sellers ratings, and I couldn't even rate or comment on the seller. I did try to take it up with the seller too. Seems they have mystically "disappeared", and ebay could care less. By the way, have you ever tryed to contact customer service at ebay?

Like Crouse, I have had, by far, mostly good experiences on Ebay. The do have proper channels for reporting fraud and I have used it with success before. I try to scrutinize each seller on Ebay before I purchase, and never purchase a high dollar item from a new seller with less than 40-50 feedbacks.
With a little footwork and reading, Ebay is a great place to shop for real bargains. Remember, you must know before bidding, who your dealing with and how much your willing to pay for any given item.
My 2 cents

Hmmm...I'm also a very successful eBay user. The problem you are having is with the seller, not eBay. As sven mentioned there are very explicit disclaimers about what to do in that type of situation. Remember, you probably aren't the only one trying to contact eBay...be patient, I wouldn't call in the Army just yet. |

I've used both EBay and Half.com. many times.
Only ever had one problem with seller on Half.com
Seller did not ship item, Half.com credited my account within 3 days for full amount. All I had to do was ask seller why I had not recieved item,he said he could not ship it and the rest was automatic. |

I've always had good experiences buying on eBay; it’s the selling that’s a pain! Seems like ppl just bid on your item to try it out and never contact you afterwards!
They are generally slow on responses to emails; I assume they get hundreds a day.
Have you tried this? ebay help

I have had many Ebay transactions in teh past and not all were good but i never blamed Ebay for it.
They do have good fraud protection. Like said above, you do have to use the proper channels...

just because you got ripped off by a seller, is it realistic to blame eBay? would you blame the phone company if you were victimized by a phone scam? would you blame a newspaper if you were swindled from by an advertisement in the local paper.
eBay does some rudimentary checking to validate registration but at some point, there is little they can do. they can investigate improper auction practices, but for the type of complain you wish to make, the responsibility of legal action is yours.
i've spend well over 20 grand on eBay since 1998 on hundreds of deals and have only had 2-3 problems total. that's a better track record than even the best run businesses.
