Having problems with Boards bought on Internet
I bought ABIT IT7 and ABIT AT7, one from Directron and one from MWAVE. Both are on their way back. Paid extra for testing and bundling at both places, and neither was tested. Best I can tell, they just crammed a refurb/return in the box and sent it to me. One, the bios does not save, if you unplug it (basic testing should have caught that). The other one locks up if you put 4 memory chips (4 good memory chips) in it. Even have to unplug it to get it to turn off.
I thought Abit was good, so I paid extra for it. I was also told MWAVE was good (found Directron on my own).
What is my problem? 0 for 2. First two motherboards I ever ordered. Should I not buy Abit, or should I buy motherboards locally and everything else on the web? How do you know you are getting a new board and not someone else's returned nightmare? Mine looked very used, so I guess I should not have paid to have it bunlded, but just arrive in a sealed box.
Thoughts anyone (much appreciated). I am new at this. Thanks!

Both companies you named are very well rated...I've bought from MWAVE before but not from Directron (because *I* live in TX and *they* are in TX so I pay state sales tax on top of shipping...perfer to order from a vendor NOT in Texas)...I'm surprised to hear that they were supposed to TEST the mobos but they didn't...that's discgraceful!
You should write them and say you're going to do a review on your experiences HERE at ResellerRatings (RR) and at the moment, the reviews aren't going to be very positive. Maybe they'll get back to you and explain themselves or do more to rectify the situation.
[IF your reviews show up, that is: A couple of people here have posted that their revews weren't showing up...I hope we're not seeing he same BS management we saw in the OLD RR, when reviews weren't posted. If so, this RR is going downhill fast]
But you can't do more really than you did: Order from a well-rated vendor, pay for testing...what else could you have done?
I'd certainly (1) demand an explanation AND (2) let them know you'll do a review here for OTHERS to see -- LOTS of people check RR first before purchasing -- which can LOSE those two vendors sales or GET them sales. If they don't come through for you, blast them without mercy here.
As for getting used when you paid for new, all you can do is TRUST the vendor...right now, MWAVE and Directron have some explaining to do.
I hope you can get it worked out...I suspect they will take responsibility since they both have been around for a while and have been good vendors up to now.
Good luck,
John D.

I looked at mwave once awhile back and I think they had another name as well, anyway their ratings were far from good.
I agree John as soon as resellerratings takes pay outs from companies to not give the bad reviews or not post them is the time resellerratings will be living in the twilight of its existence afterall we have the BBB for that.

I have bought from Directron several times with no problems, email their customer service with your gripe or call them.

I've bought a ton of stuff from Multiwave. Good service and I have never had any problems with what I've bought.
As for the memory on the Abit board. You have to use registered memory to use all 4 slots. Unregistered memory you are restricted to 2 slots. That is the limitation with all Socket A boards I have seen. If you tried to use unregistered memory, it will lock up.
I am running several Abit socket A boards with no problems. Also, a bunch of socket 370s.

Have bought several boards and processors from Mwave and never a problem with any of them. Continue to this day to buy from them. Could be just some bad luck. Give them a chance to make it right.

I use Directron quite a bit. I use mainly Newegg and then Directron second. Directron is a little higher on their prices, but they carry a lot of harder to find items. I have never had a problem with them. Sorry for your bad luck.

I think your problem may have been with your setup here.
Cwizard is correct. You can't use all 4 slots unless you are using Registered memory (which I guess I'm assuming you aren't).
I don't know if Cwizard is right about you only being able to use 2 slots, however. Your particular line may be different, but I do know that on the KR7A series you can use up to 3 slots for unregistered memory.
If that seller takes your product back and gives you a refund, ect. then I would have to say that they are showing a lot of class.
BIOS not saving is most likely a Battery problem (hopefully you set the CMOS jumper to normal) and that could be caused by your board sitting on the shelf too long- although those batteries usually are good for a couple of years. That would make me a little suspicious if the battery was dead- but again, if they are willing to correct it it's no big deal.

Thanks guys!
Yeah, CWizard was right about the registered memory. They sold it to me with 4 256 RAM installed which locked up. But according to the manual and Directron, you can run it with 3 slots (and I am). NOt sure about that 2 slot limit for nonReqistered memory, but if I have a problem, I will back off to 2 slots.
MWave also seems to be handling the situation professionally. Everyone makes mistakes, it is how those mistakes are handled that is important, and it appears I will be satisfied in the end. But I will check out newegg. Thanks for that tip too.
