Monitors Read the Fine Print

I learned too late to read the fine print in the instruction manual with my VIEWSONIC monitor (less than a year old) Guess what when it dies, you pay for shipping and you absolutely must have the original box! The customer service(?) have an attitude problem too. I'm not sure if this non warranty is true of all manufacturers but before I buy a new one, I'll check it out.

yep, usually original box AND packing materials! So make sure you save the styrofoam too!

Sorry to hear that. I didnt know that either, now i do.

Shipping is tough on a monitor, they will sell you a new shipping box if you threw yours away. The same goes for hard drive companies. You have to ship it properly or it voids the warranty.

Also, if you are fortunate enough to live in an area with their service depot, you can take it in person.

I've used Viewsonic monitors for years and have never had any problem with the company. Even their flat rate for out of warranty repair is great. For warranty repairs, you only pay shipping one way. The company pays to send the repaired unit back to you. This is what every hardware company I've dealt with does.

I've been very pleased with the performance of my Viewsonic 21" and Optiquests 19" monitors. They last for years.

Yeah...ViewSonic...the same company that wasn't honoring their advertised rebates a couple of years ago...they stiffed quite a few people if posts in the newsgroups were accurate.

I haven't been interested in them or their products since.

Ouch. I hope none of my Samsung monitors die, as I tossed the boxes (my apartment has room for three monitors, but not three giant boxes just sitting there). Besides, they had a rebate, so I cut out the UPC code on them (although I'll probably only get one rebate of the three). I looked through the manual, and they didn't say anything one way or the other about the warranty on them.

...this has been yet another post from Geo indirectly bragging about his Parhelia... :)

See, ya gotta smash it over your head and call a lawyer. Then it, and your head, get fixed for free. Easy way to save $20-30

Any shyster lawyer can prove it was neglect of the manufacter that resulted in the vicious attack.
