I've dealt with newegg 13 times in the past 10 months.. and I have not been burned.. have not been cheated.. I buy new parts.. buying referb anything is asking for trouble.. sometimes u luck out.. but they r referb for a reason..
as for shipping charges. I don't know y so many ppl have problems.. a few things to understand with shipping.. it isn't really the weight u have to worry about.. its the size of the box.. and the way its being shipped that have to do with higher costs.. though having a weighty item will get u too..
dealing on line is not a problem.. shop smart.. and deal with a good company.. you will be fine..
sheriff.. there are a few things u could have done.. and a few things u should understand.. some of the things u could have done was to refuse the package.. and have your credit card company stop payment on the 141+ dollars.. they would have.. all it would take is a simple call to dispute the order.. then call back.. btw u should always get names of the ppl you talk to.. full names.. anyway call back ask for the same person.. ask why you were charged 21 extra dollars.. I'm sure you will find out that it was the shipping department that made the goof.. and I'm sure you can be credit back the 21+ dollars.. with a sorry..
Its simple.. ppl make mistakes.. and when dealing with a company.. online or off.. they talks to thousands of ppl a day.. errors are going to occur.. if they didn't then neweggs rating would be gold star 10+

Daft is absolutely correct. People make mistakes, particularly in the light of how much business Newegg must do. I recently placed an order for an aluminum case, mobo, and keyboard - no break on shipping, plus I paid the extra $2.99 since I ordered on
a Thurs. afternoon.(It just arrived yesterday- Wed.).
Anyway, w/in a half hour of my purchase I realized I had forgotten
an item, a second keyboard. Placed another order, and assuming that Newegg numbers their orders sequentially, the new order was numbered 150 above the order placed just a half hour before, if that's any indication of the volume of business that they do.
But that's my only beef with Newegg - I think they would do even more business if you could catch a break on a multiple item shipment.
For pcweltz, the bottom line is, there was a problem, Newegg made it right, end of story.
Personally, I stay away from refurbs for just the reasons folks
have listed above - too risky for the savings and possible hassles
you're likely to encounter not very far down the road. Particularly in light of the relatively cheap hardware prices these days, go with new stuff.

I ordered 3 bare floppies, 2 fans, 2 5-port switches and 5 oem nics. Wt probably around 1.5 lbs. Shipping was 38$. Not only that, it took a week to receive the order from the time I placed it.
It's obvious they are subsidizing their sales with heavy shipping/handling.
Recently, I had to send my laptop in for repair. Shipped it FedEx 2 day with 3500$ ins. It cost me 35$ to ship it. The laptop probably weighs 5-6 lbs... | I've noticed that also. I would guess your drives above would be about $30 at a fedex counter to ship cross country (up to 14lbs in wieght). And NewEgg pays much less than an individual would.
Box size would make a difference as mentioned above, they usually go by the box size and not so much the wieght. When I have ordered things on Newegg it usually comes out to a little more than what I would pay at a counter, and that's too much IMO. Most things I buy from there are free shipping items or not much less elsewhere .

Fedex saver for an order like the one described would be around $10 or so if you were to ship directly through Fedex.

That was for Fedex saver. It was the rate off their website guessing at box size.

Fedex saver prices jump based on box size and zip. 15x12x12 was my guess (look at all he ordered). I typed in a Seattle zip when I checked, but it was $10 less if I type in a zip closer to me. Wish they did FedEx ground, because it's real cheap.

I have to admit that I've had various good and bad experiences with newegg... First off, I'd like to say that the shipping is really high... Like when i went to order my tt smart case fans... The fans were $12 + $5 sh for each fan. I looked around and found another site that sold the same exact fans for $8 plus a $5 flat fee shipping. The plus about neweggs shipiing is that they package really well. Now onto the good the bad and the ugly. My first order from newegg was a sony cd burner; it came in quickly and in good condition. So I took my chance with a oem case from cheiftec. When the case came in, the bottom was bouncing around (it got knocked off), the side pannel was not like that advertized on cheiftec's web stie, and the front bazel was broken. So I immediately got an rma (first time ever doing a rma with newegg) and sent back the front bazel and side pannel (newegg only covers $10 in shipping so i couldn't send the whole case back). They recieved it in a week. Come two weeks, I never recieved confirmation that they recieved the pieces; I called to question about my rma. I got a friendly representative that said he would look into it. Later that day I recieved an e-mail saying that it should show that they recieved it by tommorow... So, come the next day, I didn't recieve any confirmation and began to worry. This began a 3 day span of calling and fustration. Once I recieved the confirmation of reciept on day 3 of 5, it showed that they only recieved the side pannel!!! I shipped the side pannel and front bazel together. Come day 4 of 5, same status... So day 5, I wrote a harsh rating on resellerratings about newegg... 1 hr later, whilel I napping :P, I get a call from newegg apologizing for the inconvienece. After negotiating for a few min, I learned that "you can't base what you're getting with what the manufactuer states." This person was able to rectify the situation, and I did re-edit my post, but I don't think that it should have had to come down to this... I did have a lot more rma's as well, but its getting sorta late right now so I won't go into detail. My overall satisfaction is pretty satisfied, but after having 3 rma's on retail products, I'm kinda sckeptical.

Newegg also confuses New & Refurbished
On January 29, 2008 I purchased a new Gateway LCD Monitor, HD2200 from Newegg. What they shipped was a banged up monitor in a generic box clearly marked as containing a Refurbished monitor. If I had wanted a refurbished monitor one I could have gotten it cheaper from a number of other reputable sources.
After a week and three emails to customer service, I received an email that said new monitors are out of stock and in 7-10 days I should be given information as to how to send it back for refund.
If this is a common practice instead of a one time error I expect their legal troubles will soon put Newegg.com out of business.
