Nice to know that you yelled and they listened. Good job. You may have saved a lot of hassles for many people here.

I am in the same situation. The only refurb I got from them, a refurbished LeadTek GeForce 4 ti4600, did not work. It looked ok. I am trying to exchange it. It is not much of a mony saver to get the refurbs, you have to pay shiping on the return.

yeah, i always try to get new stuff anyway, but i'll be extra careful. i just always like getting retail stuff anyway (the only oem hardware i've ever bought was my cpu, and it was from Fry's).

I can agree with originel on that note. I mean saving $30 is nice but if you get something that's flaky you'll remember that far longer than the $30 you saved a couple months ago.

It's good to hear that newegg was so quick to reply to the originator of this post. I really like dealing with them - it's good to know that I still can after reading this post fully.

Yeah...They watch this site pretty closely. Which is good because it shows they actually care about customer service!

I am going to play devil's advocate here. Customer service should come before it gets to this point. Pingman, you are a perfect example in my opinion. You gave them a very lousy review the other day, they read it here and then offered you something that made you change your review. What if you hadn't posted here, would you still have had such a good experience? Taking care of you after you post a negative review here is not good customer service in my opinion, that's a good business decision. I have seen several negative reviews of them posted here in the last few weeks, all changed to positive later. They can't beat the advertising they get here so it only makes sense to protect that. I am pretty sure it cost them a heck of a lot less to spend money and make the dissatisfied customers that post here very happy, then it would to pay for advertising anything close to what they get here. Again, that's a darn good business decision.

Now that said, I have never had a problem with anything I ordered from them. However, I would have to rate the only experience I had with their Customer Service as poor though. I e-mailed them about their shipping calculator and received a standard form letter response. I expanded on what I was trying to tell them and received another standard form letter response. It was like they didn't even read what I wrote, just saw that it was about shipping and pasted a response. Nothing in their response explained to my satisfaction, why on a large multiple item order with shipping at $42, I would have to pay the additional full individual shipping cost for a VGA card fan or thermal paste. If you look at their shipping calculator explanation on their website, they make it look like anything over ~$20 is calculated based on weight. That is definitely not the case though. Even if they had just asked me what I was trying to order and "said" they would look into it, I would have felt better about it.

I am definitely not saying they're a bad company by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, I would say they are quite good. I don't think they are everything they are presented to be here though. I think if editing reviews was disabled at this site the gap between Newegg and the other good quality companies here would be a lot less.

Yes, their shipping calculating is way too high.

I ordered 3 bare floppies, 2 fans, 2 5-port switches and 5 oem nics. Wt probably around 1.5 lbs. Shipping was 38$. Not only that, it took a week to receive the order from the time I placed it.

It's obvious they are subsidizing their sales with heavy shipping/handling.

Recently, I had to send my laptop in for repair. Shipped it FedEx 2 day with 3500$ ins. It cost me 35$ to ship it. The laptop probably weighs 5-6 lbs. Much more than the few floppys and fans I ordered. It got to its destination in 2 days just like I paid for.

I've seen a lot of people here singing their praises about the great deal they got. I guess they don't count shipping as part of the deal

The only way I'm going to order from them again is if shipping is free.

Now, here's a question: Has anybody actually ordered a bunch of little stuff where the shipping was calculated high? If so, did they actually charge you the full price of shipping as quoted? Their shipping calculator may just suck, and they may charge you less. Then again, I may be giving them too much credit...

(err...should have read that last post again...)

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned the "dirty secret" of NewEgg refurbished good before. My (refurb) mobo was just DOA. I got a new one and have been working through the problems to get a running T-bird XP system.

Also got some bad (according to MemTest) DDR from them.....They say 7 days on the receipt and website. It was over a month before I realized it. They also claimed lifetime warrantee from Dane-Elec( mfgr) so I tried contacting them....no word in over a month now. *I* didn't fry it since I was at my static-free desk....

I've gotta say I've had more good purchases from NewEgg than bad. But the bad were quite annoying.
