from what i understand newegg sometimes charges a lot for shipping.

Yes, Newegg charges a lot for shipping. After reading all the rave reviews here, I needed some spare parts so I ordered:

3 bare floppy drives
2 case fans
2 5 port switches
5 10/100 ethernet cards

Shipping approx. 39$ I could understand if the stuff was heavy or expensive to insure but 28% of the cost of the order ?????

Needless to say, I'll need a serious bargain from them that I can't get anywhere else to order again.

BTW, I've made purchases from Tiger Direct. I've always gotten what I ordered with reasonable shipping charges. Even ordered a Notebook computer for a friend from them. Overnight shipping on the Notebook was less than the New Egg order.

Everybody has their favorites for whatever reason. Me. I don't have favorites, I just use what works.

I've used TigerDirect. Every now and then they have a fantastic bargain, though most of the time the stuff they sell is neither state-of-the-art nor best-price. Their refurbished machines seem to be well priced.

If you think you might need technical support, though, forget it. I had a long and disastrous experience about 5 years ago with a motherboard I bought from them that came with an erroneous circuit diagram and an irrelevant instruction booklet.

I haven't had to return anything, so I'm not familiar with their RMA policy. They shipped stuff reasonably promptly.

I have spent a lot of time surfin' newegg, and they seem to be 10 - 20 bucks higher than other places. Plus the shipping, seems a little steep for me.I mean $120 or $160 for the same thing? I'll take $120. I have ordered from geeks many times without problems, but they didn't have the case I wanted, Tiger does, and I figured that shipping and so on, it would be cheaper to order everything from Tiger. I may split the order though.

Thanx

don't use them, they suck.

their customer service is no good.

any merchant can be seen as good when things go fine, item arrives as ordered etc... the test of a good merchant is how things work out when there is a problem. read up on these guys, they are bad news. especially stay away from them if there is a rebate involved in your deal, they operate the rebate processing company, something I have never seen before. fox guarding the henhouse, that sort of thing.
