www.googlegear.com has an ASUS TUA266 ALI PRO5 PIII mobo for $74.99. It's a Socket 370 that accepts the PIII/Celeron/Talautin core. It has both SDRAM(3 slots) and DDR (2 slots)for a future upgrade. 1AGP pro slot, 5 PCI, and 1 AMR. Lists 6 USB. 133 FSB and ATA100. I'm rather impartial to ASUS boards.

why no ECS? i just built a P4 1.8 system with a ECS P4S5A/DX mobo and its a super machine. planning on getting a K7S5A/DX board for a Athlon XP 1800+ here purty soon. just wondering why you don't like ECS.

Hmmm---a wonder of choices---and everyone may have one, a recent budget replacement for a pal was an ECS board (ECS K7S5A) and 1.1 Duron complete for 90$---are you really hung up on that ECC mem?

If yer into a PIII or money isnt an issue---disregard---1.3 Durons are only 55$ or a Celeron 1.3 is 73$ PIII 1.2 is 121$ and a P4/XP setup wouldnt be a whole lot more...

Its so hard to decide aint it?

just make sure the memory will fit the board. I know 168 pin edo ecc buffered and non-buffered a diffferent.
I am not certain if that's the same with ecc sdram or not.
Secondly how many meg of memory per slot will it handle. 512 meg of memory is no fun if it only see's 256.

as to what board if the memory will work you might take a look at the abit vh6t.

ECS

The K7S5A was my last build."don't want to duplicate it".
It was a fair board with no real problems w/an XP 1600
Some freeze ups once in a while "perhaps a little too often"
But anyway on to something different.

Considering the the IntelD845Wn @ $115 and a Celeron P4-478 1.7 GHz @ $99

But was looking to spend less, say $150 for combo
I won't have this puter long

But a nice little project
64MB AGP
512 pc133
Sony 16X DVD
Gold Star 32X CDRW
WD 40GB 7200 RPM HDD
Sony FD
Logitech S38 Mouse
Round IDE & FD Cables
Amped Speakers "eh"
Nic
Creative 5.1 SBL Audio

Sweet Little PC for surf & Gamin
For around $600.00
500 would be better but (pay to play )as it were!

Project "NEXT"

KOP sup ?
YES Man as you know I am sorta novice at pc building.
It is still fresh and exciting, with a lesson round every corner.

I sucessfully SOLD that last box "How Bout That"
Now I want to try something in another vein of the industry.
My Dell is an old XPS 600 but is rock solid and smooth, so I'm curious as to weather this is INTEL/INTEL matchup or not?

Good to talk again, I'll be pulling from you experience L8R

man you just scared me away from my new XP build. i'm sticking with Intel. i think the P3's are about the most solid chip Intel has built but... if you do go with Intel P4 the ECS P4S5A/DX board is SUPER! no freezes for me.

HOW IN THE WORLD DID THAT SCARE YOU AWAY FROM AMD?

It seems to me that you have a bias towards Intel in the first place. It looks like you're sold on that "intel/intel stability" crap. That's simply not true. And the P3 being the most solid chip Intel has built? Well, yeah, if you want so-so performance I guess.

I'm not trying to flame, but you seriously need to rethink your views of AMD. Plus, the P4 looks to be out of his price range.
