Food Data Transfers

I want to start transferring data from one computer to another. Specifically whole hard drives. I saw on an internet search that FastLynx 3.2 was a pretty good program.

Some versions come with cables and of course you can get the software oem. Do I need the gold cables that comes with the complete retail package, or can I use any old USB or parrallel cables?

Also has anyone used FastLynx 3.2? Is there a better program out there?

Thanks in advance.

If you're talking about "cloning" one drive from another, try Ghost

If you're "upgrading" to bigger/better HDD, then you might try AlohaBob

If you're simply transferring data, a plain vanilla parallel data cable will be fine (though slow). If you've got a CD-RW, it might be faster to burn a disk with the files to be transferred on it. For whole drives, using Ghost or Drive Image (http://www.powerquest.com/driveimage/) is easiest, especially if you temporarily connect the new drive to the old machine's second IDE connection and do a direct disk-to-disk transfer.

What I'm trying to do is take one computers HD and transfer all its files onto a new HD on another computer.

I have used LapLink...worked great, came with the serial, parallel, and USB cables. Was easy, intuitive and I just had a all-around good experience.

Misc

Hey,

Thanks for all the helpful information. I think I'll go with Ghost mainly because I have a copy of it and forgot I had it. Rather use that than spend $$$ on another program.

Thanks again.
