bcd2000, cyberpowerpc, mcglen.com: Comments, suggestions, experiences?
I'm a poor college student (redundant, I know) looking for a good online custom computer seller. My budget is about $700, allthough I already have a monitor. I've been able to narrrow down my search to three sites, mcglen.com, bcd2000.com, and cyberpowerpc.com. Unfortunatly, while mcglen and cyberpower offer the best value and most wide selection of options, their ratings aren't too spectacular. BCD has an excellent rating (allthough it is only 27 votes), however their system is not nearly as customizable and a little more pricey. Anyway, I was hoping that someone who's done buisness with either on (or all) of these companies, preferably buying a complete system, would post their experiences with the company.
Right now i'm leaning towards mcglen.com, based on the suggestion, and endorsement, of a friend who bought from them.

Welcome to TechIMO. You've come to the RIGHT place!
I personally would not touch McGlen or any of it's sister/parent companies with a ten foot pole. I've had too many problems with them and their customer support is non-existent. The other sites you've mentioned I know nothing about. I will say this, however: Like anything else in life, you get what you pay for. The Reseller Ratings are key to a good buying experience. For a few bucks extra you get the service and peace of mind that comes from dealing with a quality company. If you allow price to be the driving force in your decision then you're setting yourself up for a fall. TomTeriffic has dealt with a small company in Ohio that seems to provide a quality product and the support to go with it and at a good price to boot. If I can find the link I will give you a heads-up unless someone else beats me to it.

I bought from McGlen some time back...ordered a high-quality CPU HSF and they sent me a no-name cheap one. Never responded to my e-mails about it.
No, I wouldn't by from the "bait and switch" boys again.
Good luck if you DO, and need to send anything back or get a refund...providing they send you what you ordered in the first place that is!
There are MUCH BETTER online vendors than McGlen Micro...go with someone else.

BCD2000.com
I just recieved a Barebones system from BCD2000 and was very happy with service and selection of products, prices.
I got an ATX Mid Tower case 300w p/s ecs micro MoBo Athlon1700 1.47GB 256 MB's Ram,56x CD-Rom, Floppy drive,keyboard,mouse.
And to my surprise Everthing was assembled.
Everthing was a little over $300
I purchised my HD & O/S(winxp oem)from COMP-U-PLUS
Their Hard Drves are little cheaper & so are the O/S Sytems
Both places are great for parts.

build it yourself
For the cheapest and most customizable system, build it yourself, it isn't hard and you surely have a geek college friend that can help right? Newegg is probably one of the safest places to order form and they have decent prices, sometimes it is worth the extra dolars to get the guarantee you will get the stuff you order. There are plenty of people in these forums to help you out too, ask around about what parts you should get, it isn't that hard to build a system from scratch.
Good Luck
Steve

But, if you're not into custom building and want a quality "off-the-shelf" system with 24/7 warranty and support, then, by all means, go with Dell. They usually run some killer deals.
