New Computer

What do you guys think? I'm probably gonna get:

http://www.directron.com/atxa288usb.html for a case... upgrading to a 420 watt quiet PS, 2 80 mm quiet fans, a 60 mm quiet fan, and a 15" blue cathode... for style of course... that'll total about $165 before tax and shipping...

The rest of the stuff isn't as interesting...

AMD Athlon XP 2200+
1 GB Mushkin CAS 2 DDR RAM
120 GB WD HDD w/ 8 MB Buffer
Chaintek GeForce 4 Ti4600 w/ 128 MB DDR RAM
Sound Blaster Audigy X-Gamer
40x12x48 CD Burner (Anyone suggest a good one?)
16x DVD Drive (Anyone suggest a good one?)

I'm missing a LAN card, but I wasn't sure if I should get one onboard w/ the MB. What MB should I get? Asus A7V333 seems to be a good one considering its #1 at http://www.motherboards.org/rank/AMD...oard-rank.html

Either way, I need suggestions for CD-Burner, DVD Drive, and MB. Plus, if you have any recommended changes for the other things, tell me. Btw, what kind of 3D Marks scores would I get w/ this set up?

Cool system

Get a Plextor or Yamaha as a burner ...
DVD ..hmm .. maybe Sony ...

Make sure you get a decent HS to keep you CPU cool and stable .. i recommend Tt Volcano 7+ or CoolerMaster HHC-001 (with AS3) for that matter ...

Good choice on the MoBo, Asus A7V333 is a very solid one.

I think youe 3DM2001 score should go over 10k

Regards

that is an awesome looking case. kenkun is right though, make sure to get a good hsf, either of those would work well. good specs, i'd go for crucial on the mem though, mushkins good (in fact i use it) but you just can't beat what's crucials got (there's a banner for it on this site).

Well I can say you have way to much money! lol j/k

That case is awesome! I like black cases personally, but that case makes me question my loyalty to the color black

As for the mobo. I'm currently looking for one for my new system. I chose the MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU (rated 5th). I liked it's features/price/looks above the others. I'm haven't heard of the some of the other boards listed their though, so I'll do some research. I'd have to say the board you chose is looking awesome! I might even pick it above the MSI I was looking at (though it's not red like the MSI which is sad)

Definately having a Volcano 7+ or something similar in it. They're quiet, right? I'm probably gonna keep it on 24/7 since I'll be living in a dorm, its important that it be quiet.

The thing with Crucial is, I don't think they sell CAS 2 sticks of RAM. I'm probably going to end up getting 2 sticks of PC 2100 512 MB CAS 2 RAM from Mushkin. I'd consider the 2-2-2, but that's like, $200 a stick of 512. So I'll most likely get the 2-3-3 for like, $115 a stick. http://www.mushkin.com/cgi-bin/Mushk...roducts/990809

The TT Volcano 7+ should be quiet enough since there is a guage for tempurate and will speed up if necessary. Also, is your video card going to be the one with the extra special ram sinks? For all your other parts, you should check out newegg.com

Edit, saw this... the recommendations for burners

Extra special ram sinks? I'm not sure I know what you mean. :\ I'm just getting the regular Chaintek GeForce 4 Ti4600. No extra games, nothing.

The special ram sinks would be the gold one, with the black PCB, and gold backing plate, also look at the link above for the burners here is a link for the card that I am talking about if you scroll down, it is called the "GT61"

what's the main difference between the GT60 and the GT61? other than Games of course. I notice the RAM sinks, but what's that do?

Oh yeah, I was wondering about good 80mm and 60 mm case fans. I know Directron sells some, but the case comes with a transparent fan for the side, and i was wondering if there were any decently priced transparent 80mm quiet fans... anyone ever tried http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ry=1572&DEPA=1 ? its oem though...

Dang, I just realized the 420 watt P/S I was gonna upgrade to was a Directron one... are Enermax power supplies any good? They have a two quiet 430 watt ones... one has an adjustable fan speed and is like, $25 more expensive than the one w/o an adjustable fan... is it worth it to get an adjustable fan speed PS?
