Evertek.com advertises itself as a “resellers only” business; in fact they are a retailer disguised as a wholesaler.
They sell their products listed on their “reseller only” site, evertek.com, through the eBay User ID: geeks. Geeks operate a website, geeks.com which lists its business located in the same building as Evertek.
Their products are also sold through eBay User ID: tekgems (ever tek)
In conclusion:
Evertek is selling to you, and then you are competing against them. Don’t waste your money with them if you plan on selling through eBay. |
Funny, how much time has gone by since the original post in this thread, but I felt compelled to post.
Back in the mid to late 90's Evertek was a true wholesale operation. Their inventory was alot less limited than it is now. However in the early days of ebay you could make a killing. Motherboards particularly. In the early days of the socket 7 and socket 8, I remember doubling my money on ebay and the stuff was still flying off the shelves. I remember buying almost a 1000 fic pa-2002 boards from them, paying something like $19 each and having them fly off the shelves for $35. Pentium pro boards for $19 each with the vrm and they would go on ebay quickly for $40.
They also had a website called wholesaleauction.com which was pretty good. but I would say evertek really started to change around 2000.
Their whole mo seemed to go from offering true closeout deals to being a retailer. As I write this (may 2010) you can go on pricewatch.com and pretty much find anything cheaper than evertek with free shipping. You can buy a nic card right now on pricewatch for $5 with free shipping while evertek is selling them for $6.88 for a quantity of 10, plus shipping, plus you have to pay a $10 surcharge for orders under a $100. The old evertek would have been selling a closeout deal, probably for $1.99 each. Matter of fact I seem to recall buying nic cards at least EIGHT years ago from evertek for $3.99 each.
10 years ago, there wasn;t a single pricewatch vendor selling for anywhere near what evertek prices were for anything. Now, u would be hard pressed to find evertek selling anything "wholesale" for less than what most pricewatch vendors are selling.
Thank God I went in a different direction and got out of computers almost a decade ago. I can't imagine anybody making money particularly selling on ebay. And as pointed out by another poster, they are now competing against their own buyers on ebay selling stuff for pennies above what they want on evertek, where you have to pay shipping and buy in quantity.
In short, a good company, but not competitive at all on price, not at least for the last decade.
