Geotpf Laptopbrain Inc is a scam. I have proof of this. They report an article from a supposed magazine check this link here: http://www.laptopbrain.net/article.htm

searching the web i found that, that article belongs to this company: http://www.costpluscomputers.com.au/article.htm

So to confirm this i contact the writer of the article and here is what his e-mail said to me:

Hello!

Few minutes ago I found this posting in the techimo-forum.
On 2002-08-23 I made a money order to Goldchanger for a PowerBook and a Sony mp3-Player I ordered. It was about 1614,95 US$. I'm from Germany and I payed 1694,81 Euro. There was no reaction neither from "Goldchanger" nor from "Tampa Exchange".

Is my money lost or are there possibilities to get it back?

Please inform me.

Goldchanger is slow to reply.

Three emails to them resulting in the same email each time.

We are mailing the checks back, it will take some time.

It takes a week to hear back that and there has been no followup.

I haven't got my check back yet.
Chances are that you will sweat it out and it will just take some time and you will be sweating it out until then.

You might try stopping payment, I think that my $148 was cashed and deposited in their bank and they are drawing up new checks to send, I guess that is the delay. No real response or explanation from them. I doubt that they would cash a check that large and deposit it. Most likely they are holding it. Get ahold of them and find out, tell them to rip it up and mail it back to you or to someone else in the states that you trust, and see if you can stop payment on the check.

That might work.

I just recieved my cashiers check back from X-Changers with the following note attached:

To Whom It May Concern:

We are returning your funds due to uncertainties involving the conduct of a company called Tampa Exchange. You sent funds with intent to make an internet purchase through their company, however due to vagaries of their website, their failure to contact us by phone, and their failure to make strikingly clear to their customer base that we have no involvement with their merchandise sales, beyond processing payments, we have decided to stop the processing payments on their behalf. Furthermore, we have received a number of complaints against their company and, even worse, a number of complaints against our company due to their lack of clarity on the separation between their business practices and ours.

Well, I am a victim of Tampa Exchange USA also. I thought I did enough research before I dealt with them. I have seen ligit deals on computers with prices like they offered, so there really wasn't a red flag when I saw them. I was a bit nervous, but went ahead
with it anyway. Looks like I am out 880 bucks. Lessoned learned.
School is expensive, isn't it.

I hope Goldchanger can rescue my money. I have sent them two emails in two days, haven't heard back yet. I'll keep trying.
