DDR delema

OK i plan on building a new system. it will be a 333 board w/AMD 2000 XP processor.

now as for the RAM...would i be wiser to buy a 256mb 2700DDR stick @ ~$100 and buy another stick of it later to get 512mb total? or just buy a 512mb 2100DDR stick at ~$140 and be done with it at the lower overall cost?

will the increased RAM speed justify the price increase?

Yeah, it's difficult to really use 512MB at the moment. Even Windows XP uses little over 160MB on boot.

Get the 2700 256... you don't really need 512 yet... wait for the prices to drop a little bit.

another option

looking around pricewatch i noticed that the samsung 2700DDR is priced REAL close to the 2100DDR Equivalent (both 512) the 2700 is only ~10-15 bucks more.

how important is brand name? is samsung as good as say crucial or kingston?

Outdoors Underclock!?!

Now why on earth would you sacrafice performance for quantity? If anything, go higher...maybe that board will bet some hefty upheaval running it overclocked with some PC3000 [maybe say, upwards of a XP2400!?!].

But under no circumstance would I allow any customer of mine to underclock anything in their system...that would be sacrilege. And don't get the cheap memory...DO NOT GO ABOVE CAS2! CAS2 is what you want.

256 is enough...but if you're into media, it's amazing the difference half a gig+ can make.
