I spent a lot of big $$$ to buy a Sony VAIO digital studio computer which comes bundled with video and photo editing software, a memory stick reader, IEE1394 to plug my Sony digital camera in directly.
I have had nothing but problems for four months, and would you believe this computer will NOT interface with a Sony dedicated digital photo printer. I mean who would imagine that SONY would NOT update their printer drivers to all a Sony photo printer to work with the new SONY Digital video/photo studio computers?
I have made many attempts to contact Sony but get put on hold for 30+ minutes and give up...and contacting via EMAIL only gets an automated response. I've tried at least a dozen times, and TWICE they sent back a "try this" list...none of which addressed my problems.
At the end of the list they suggest REPLYing to that Email if their suggestions don't fix the problem. Doing that gets another Email saying they can't respond as it is an automated reply ;>(
The Cd writes and can read the data....and then the data disappears and the disk is unusable.
The modem fails to respond after restarting the computer. Must go to control panel, remove the modem, restart, shut down, unplug, replug, restart....then it works again.
I finally begged the dealer to take this back after four months which they did and replaced with another Sony. The second one has its own set of problems including the modem and the parallel port won't send to the printer. Troubleshooting shows it's OK.
Restarting with the Sony printer plugged into the front USB resorts in a system lockup at start. System is extremely SLOW with a Zip drive plugged in.
Sony makes very fine cameras, and the dedicated photo printer is unsurpassed for print quality....4X6 max....but their computers suck, and Sony's customer <ahem> "service" is the absolute pits.
one can't go wrong with a Sony camera, but I would suggest anyone considering a new computer to stay away from Sony, even with all of its bundled photo and video software.
The OS is Win XP which also seems to have a lot of bugs.
