buying a box

Would like to find a place to build a complete box. Any suggestions?

I would look at a cardboard distributor in your area.
You can also use plastics metals and wood to make a box. Guess it just depends what kind of box you want. And how big.

What kind of box?

If it's a computer, econo or overclocker?

Do you want to mail order?

Do you want to build it yourself from scratch?

Need Details

Where are you located? There should be shops in your area to purchase materials for your "box" which I am assuming is a computer. Mead's response was also appropriate.

Local sites for me here

Keep in mind these are in $CND and I think we get hosed up here for prices.

Oh yes, excuse me! Welcome to TechIMO!

Also it can be very helpful and interesting if you put your location in your profile.

Beantown of course! ; ) Now one would expect to find many a local dealer to build a box=computer, but the only place around with the components I want is PCSFOREVERYONE, which only has so-so prices.

I'm not adverse to buying online if the price is right, I bought my current monitor and had it shipped, luckily it worked fine. My current computer I purchased from a local shop while I was at school (RPI for those that care).

I asked the question on the forum, since many of the top 50 vendors just sell parts. I like the ability to complain to one store if there is a problem, shipping rates for individual parts are getting too high, and it is just plain easier from the I perspective.

Looking at an 1800+ Athlon, 512 megs of RAM, 70-80 gig hardrive, DVD, CD-RW, ATi 8500 video card (for the decent dual monitor support) yadayada Not going to be overclocking it at this point.

Priced out at PCSFOREVERYONE, it comes in around $15xx or so. If anybody knows a B+M location that could offer it for less do tell. If I go online, figure it would need to be around $1200 or less to sway me.

Teedle, and thanks for the welcome!

Beantown = Boston, Mass?

How about MicroCenter?

Also next time you go to PCs for Everyone!, pick up a Computer User. They list local hardware shops and prices. I use the one printed in ATL for my computer needs.

Microcenter doesn't offer a good selection of AMD-based systems along with the customized options I want. Actually just checked out PCSFOREVERYONE again, the price of the 8500 Radeon dropped $90 since the last time I checked, along with a couple of other key components I wanted. Going to cruise over there tomorrow and price a system out. Wish me luck!

www.newegg.com is a good place to order from. Great prices and reputation.

Try www.pricewatch.com as well. It's a "street price search engine". You should double check any vendors you might find on there at www.resellerratings.com.

Best of luck, and welcome to TechIMO.
