39dollarglasses denies its guarantee

39dollarglasses.com is advertised by bloggers and referred by New Yorker article but refuses to fully refund eyeglasses ordered online that they sent...that are not usable for seeing, reading...immediately returned...but only 70% of payment refunded...angry customer-no-service workers blame any everything on customer to keep profits. DO NOT BUY HERE...their web guarantees are not honored, their BBB logo means zilch, their attitude is harsh, aggressive, self-serving. Bad attitude, poor product [not usable, no choice but to return it]
and 1/3 of honest-earned money is kept by them.

How does a customer deal with an on-line BAD purchase like this ?

Since the BBB gives them an A+ rating, you might want to start with them. While the BBB has no legal authority in dispute/arbitration matters, companies that want to maintain a high rating there will, more often than not, work with customers who file complaints through then.

Always do BBB complaint form, even if tedious detailed

The BBB rating is not as informative as one would wish. Many/ most people dont bother to take the 45"+ min it takes for alllllll the details BBB online c/o form requires. Nothing is left out. But I did it, thanks to posted response here.

Credit card company dispute also needs to be often updated & inquired into too. Epinions posting can be made to make visible and read others' similar problems.

Putting pressure in any and every way to non-services non-honoring their own 'guarantees' and advertising to any company. And warning others is necessary.

And remembering that everyone else is ON SALARY for all time and efforts respnding to customer-complainer = who only wants honest refund for defective mdse, it is worth exerting work req'd for the re-EMPOWERMENT of not letting companies get away with poor practices for profits only.

Thanks to communities dis-covered on net to prevent corporations/ businesses from only having all power to depress and anger buying public.

I completely agree! I bought a pair of glasses from them, and my eyes hurt so bad when I wore them. There is NO way they got the prescription right! Now, they will only refund me 70%!! Their guarantee is NO GOOD! I have notified the BBB, whether it will do any good or not, maybe it will.
I do NOT recommend buying from them!

39dollar glass and BBB are not responsive...stilll

months later and both the retailer also called " VALUE EYECARE NETWORK INC" [ what a joke that name is ! ] aka $39glasses has done nothing to make good the immediate return of their faulty products. Better Business Bureau has taken all these months to merely ask me to confirm that there has been no refund or they will "close" this case...which means they do not do RATING or informing to consumers if somehow the customer has been able to wrangle back their honestly hard earned money ! So BBB is just a fancy name for another bureaucracy that does nothing ...

so my 30% of refund was earned back by:
hard work, persistence, anger, frustration, work, letters, calls, and more time and frustration and ultimately ONLY THRU THE GUARANTEES FROM THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY putting in yet a 2nd dispute, and the $39glasses 'not responded' was the charge removed.

Not because the company honored their 'guarantee' or sales or ethical standards which obviously cannot be 'seen at all' anywhere !

So only because someone Else reminded me : call your credit card company and put in a "dispute" for charges....not that credit card company enters into fray, but at least this time, maybe by mistake on their part, the charge from the theiving eyeglass company was removed and I went elsewhere to replace the glasses I needed !

the more we INFORM each other about what happens, where and how to get decent treatment ... after all the strains and stresses of trying to be a good citizen and reasonable consumer... this is just one place and any others should be found and the bad people made TRANSPARENT for their cheating ways for others to learn Before...which I had not checked out, sorry to say.

next time...
I'm buying local
where I can walk in and make the scene in person, as needed.
I also thank those who treat me decently, honestly and fairly too !

Not everyone has my bad and time-wasting experiences, obviously....

that there are many customers of on line products and services is obvious from the slew of ads and websites on board....

that I had a terrible experience and no recourse to the seller located across the country, who hung up on me requesting my due refund, leaving me no way to contact them but via email which they also did not answer...means that when a problem DOES OCCUR, this distance is not worth the price differential.

To check out thoroughly the reputation of the seller on line is obviously important, tho I did not do so....assuming if I had a recommendation from an author I trusted, it was sufficient. I was wrong.

When someone makes positive responses to other's misfortunes without any specific respectable companies mentioned, I wonder if this is a promo, PR, or something other than just information shared with others.

My purpose in writing was to INFORM OTHER PEOPLE and warn them of the fraudulent practices of 39dollarglasses as I experienced them and then heard others had also.

The last response here posted seems to want to tell us all that he likes to buy on line and buys cheap. goodie for that but is that helpful information to anyone ? no one I know or care about. If he is so happy with his purchases and can state unequivocally that the company honors all its sales contracts and guarantees too, that may be useful information...or else why bother telling us he buys on line ? huh? I dont understand but what ever....
we all get to use this site for our own purposes, obviously.
