| Thanks for being Johnny on the spot, Michaels!
There are two D&H, one American and the other Canadian..
The latter has only contact via email, no telephone nor address stated in their "contact us" option...
Since I never have nor never will, order an Intel, I can only say that AMD place their stock cooler in a separate box and only the CPU is shown in the transparent window...
No pins, no CPU...These items are clearly blinks...The explanation by Egg is rather strange to say the least..
Foxconn Fan on a i7? Even the fan was a blink...
If these were indeed demo boxes, why place any hardware in them and worry about these high priced items being stolen?
Egg and their supplier made a BIG mistake...Egg not only needs to find a new wholesaler, but give the effected customers free CPU's...

From what I've heard,Newegg is working to send replacements to customers. The demo box explanation was clearly a bad move, even the boxes themselves have been proved to be counterfeit. I'd definitely find another supplier if I were them,D&H's actions in this can only make things worse. What bothers me is that if a company as large as Newegg can fall prey to something like this, the problem with "knockoff" fake merchandise must be getting bigger than most people realize.

| I suspect this was dropped shipped...When shipping over 35,ooo items per day, mishaps are going to occur...
I seriously doubt, that even the wholesaler knew they were shipping blinks...
The good news out of all this, is that it is very difficult to blink a CPU...
Now I wonder, if New Egg is going to do a REVIEW?

What surprises me is a company as large as Newegg getting the CPU's from a supplier, you'd think they'd get them directly from Intel.

More than likely, Intel, with its control of the CPU market does not want to work with etailers directly, but rather a single wholesaler who buys thousands of units, instead of hundreds...
The real question is for D&H, because they could not have purchased these directly of Intel...
I suspect the purchasing agent or two will be receiving pink slips...
UPDATE FROM HARDOCP:
Fake Intel CPUs at Newegg
UPDATE - 03/08/10
Statement from Newegg:
Newegg is currently conducting a thorough investigation surrounding recent shipments of questionable Intel Core i7-920 CPUs purchased from Newegg.com. Initial information we received from our supplier, IPEX, stated that they had mistakenly shipped us "demo units." We have since come to discover the CPUs were counterfeit and are terminating our relationship with this supplier. Contrary to any speculation, D&H Distributing is not the vendor that supplied us with the Intel Core i7-920 CPUs in question

Well then if NewEgg apologizes and admitted that it was the suppliers fault, I think the apology must be accepted. What's bad is that, if they didn't admit it. I'm sure they can work this out well. Thanks for the info anyway.

Ouch! Looks like HardOCP jumped the gun naming D&H as the distributor. Bet it really galled Kyle to have to issue that apology! Although D&H's handling of the matter only raised suspicions. Looks like the companies involved need better PR people.

| The matter has been resolved, with no damage to D&H and little to Egg...However, the latter should be more careful about issuing inaccurate statements.
As one poster said, CPUs, ounce for ounce have a greater value than a 1oz gold coins...
Somewhere in the supply chain the originals where replaced by blinks..
A decade ago, this problem was even worse, as the cost of CPUs were even higher priced yet...
I hope these louses are rounded up and have a CPU installed into their brains...
