tgrt is infamous around these parts
There doesn't necessarily need to be a standard although it would make things clearer. We already have an established and ubiquitous meaning for "open box". And it pretty much is what it says.

Your analogy would work if a particular pizza place marketed a pizza, but hid the fact it had no cheese in small type.

Just wanted to point out that as of this time the BBB Icon on the techforless.com website is not active. Clicking on the icon brings up the following pop-up,
Quote:
Tech For Less has been a member of the BBB in good standing since 2001. Due to an ownership change we are currently going through the accreditation again and this should be in place soon. Please be assured that your satisfaction is still our number one priority and we continue to offer you our 30-Day Money-Back Satisfaction Guarantee. Please feel free to contact our customer service department with any questions or concerns toll-free at 1.866.880.1230 or via email at customerservice @techforless.com (edited, remove space)
The link should lead to their BBB Report which as of this time states,
Quote:
This business is not a BBB Accredited Business.

New Owner Date: December 2009

re: somebody's playn games....

I'd also like to point out that I sent Techforless an email on Feb. 13 requesting further detail on their open box desktops. To date I have not received a reply from them. Basically I want to know if their OB systems are new or used and what is accessories are included. I'm only looking at the HP systems, and if you go to their site you can see in detail what the individual systems came with as retail units. This especially pertains to the software. The HP units came with a whole array of software including Internet Explorer, Windows movie maker, windows DVD maker,HP recovery manager, media smart,Microsoft works, trial antivirus and more. AND,a lot of these HP units especially the Pavilion Elite series came with Wide screen monitors, wireless keyboards + mice and some with TV tuners w/ remotes-according to the model numbers shown on tech for less' site. These systems are all from 2007 or 2008 and they really came loaded up with goodies. Things have changed greatly since then, every accessory now is an extra. The specs listed on techforless site are night and day different from the manufacturer's site.
