The consumer does have some resort in the matter when a company tries to offer an "even better" item: Just say no.

Bait & Fish, only works if the consumer is not aware of such practices.

The major harm is often done to other Venders --who lose business to these kind of stores.

I am not sure about that statement, Megalos....In fact, when you find an excellent vendor not only do they set a very high standard, one is likely to stay with them...

This also puts them under an economic pressure to emulate this practice.

In the long term, B&F, does not work...Short term gains, for long term pain.

But I wouldn't put it entirely on NYC.

This is a very interesting thread not only due to the nature of the complaints, but also in the way the company dealt with it...

Having been a member for over three years, one begins to see a pattern among some businesses....

Rather than apologizing and admitting an error was made, some firms simply deign that the complaint is even valid....

Then the defense migrates to the public relation side, wherein the entity claims tens of thousands of satisfied patrons, as if at this even germane to the complainant nor the argument..This is nothing more than an attempt to redirect the main points of the issue at hand, in other words - a smoke screen...

When the the above fails, one begins to see legal jargon entering the conservation...When this does not silence their critics, the legal implications turn to threats of lawsuits, all the while on lookers begin to assume that, whether or not the claims have merit, they would rather avoid doing business with the company...

The mechanics are simple to observe:

1) deign accountability

2) deflect and defend

3) threaten

All of these tactics produce less than favorable results, in fact, they create other issues that where not present, compounding a simple problem...

After all, why turn a customer problem into a moral or ethical issue...With the speed and the power of the Internet, businesses can no longer afford the luxury of not dealing with complaints..

Sony HVL-F36AM into Google results in AccessoryCircuit.com comming up 1st in the list. The item shows up "In-stock" on their page (at a price too low to not be suspect). They are advertising it as brand new with manufacturer warranty. Due to their less than desirable ratings I called to verify the item being in stock, I was told it was not but would be back within a few weeks if wanted to go ahead and place an order.
I'm glad I checked reseller ratings 1st!

You are a wise man, Don...Priced too low, strike one, not in stock when they said it was in stock, strike two...

I am glad you did not take strike three and left empty handed..

Seems like they are still up to their old tricks. been a while since i've responded but i havent forgotten.

notice how the last few ratings are as follows:

11/28/09 2:01 PM
**Update** Rec'd a call from "Michael" that the item is available in the CA warehouse and will be shipped 11/30/09. Will update once item is rec'd.

I wish I had discovered this site BEFORE I placed an order. The "IN STOCK" item I purchased was 1133B001 Canon CB-2LX Charger for Canon NB-5L Lithium Battery Pack. I also received an email next day item is backordered for 6-8 weeks. I was also offered a substitute. I advised csutomer service rep, website shows in stock and update immediately, leave item on backorder and DO NOT charge my cc. I requested an email stating backordered and restock date. I did rec email 3-5 weeks expected.

Item is still "IN STOCK" as of today. Now you all know this item will never be available.

This behavior is not acceptable. I will be canceling this order and collecting all information to forward to the BBB and AG of MA (my home state) and NY (company home state).

I will also be contacting all search engines that list this company to inform them of this bait and switch policy.

This needs to be stopped.

I ordered a Nikon SB-400 Speedlight i-TTL Shoe Mount Flash (Guide No. 98'/30 m at 18mm) thru their web site and received a call next day saying that the item is back ordered and it will take few weeks before they can get it and suggested to some other brand names instead. I had couple other experiences with some stores like this and cancelled my order. Their web store front showed this item as in stock. The service rep was polite and cancelled my order. I wanted this unbit by a specific date and had to order it else where and pay for next day delivery.

Typical BAIT and SWITCH. Ordered a Sony flash HVL-F36AM. Got a call the next day telling me that the flash was on backorder even though the website showed In-Stock. They offered some other brand instead, because it might take up to 6 weeks for the Sony to come in again. I told them I'll wait for the Sony. Called them in July. Website still showed 'In-Stock'. Was told still on backorder and might not come in from Sony before August. Again offered some other no-name alternative. Did decline. E-mailed them on September 5 since I did not receive the item. A Rebecca Court responded 'will actually be here as per sony by weeks end J'. Whatever that means. Still did not get the product I wanted.
I will NEVER try to buy at this company again and I strongly recommend the same to everybody else.
This is BAD business!

I have gotten two letters from the NY Att. General.. God they take forever to investigate. I dont know how much this is gonna do. The only thing i can imagine is if many others who had the same problem or worse than me made complaints that they would work faster. So far i have received 3 letters. the last two confirmed that they have looked into the matter, its not closed, however they aren't giving me details. They explain in the last letter i received 3 weeks ago that they have sent a copy to Accessorycircut for "their" records.. Here is the full letter details verbatim:

Dear: (Name)

I enclose a copy of the response we received from Accessory Circut regarding the complaint you filed with our office.

We will keep a record of this complaint on file for future reference in the event that this issue should develop into a pattern. On behalf of Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo, ?I trust this information is helpful.

Thank you for contacting us.

Sincerely yours,
Manuel Perez

Dear Mr. Perez

The letter doesnt comfort me much except for the fact they have it on file. I know the At.Gen is not stupid and has busted people for the same exact fraud.

Well only time will tell... i even checked to see if its in stock again. of coarse it is but if i called them or ordered it, how much you wanna bet they dont have it in stock?

btw here is their wonderful place of business.. (at least what is listed as their address on the website!)

Photo: 233, Album: Brooklyn Camera/Electronic Dealer StoreFronts
501 Novelty Corp., aka Five Hundred One Novelty Corp., dba Accessory Circut, AccessoryCircut.com
502 Gravesend Neck Road, Gravesend
Address is on contact page as the East Coast Office, though instead of using Brooklyn they use "Kings country, NY 11223." Also listed is their West Coast office and warehouse in Santa Monica, CA. (As product enters the US in California it is cheaper to buy and stock it there.) They are in the ground floor office. Their fax number of 347-492-5913, googles to Five Hundred One Novelty Corp. The NY entity database lists 501 Novelty Corp. at this address.

hardy har har... thanks to Brooklyn Camera/Electronic Dealer StoreFronts (you are the man! thankyou for sharing)

i have to mention i love this website. down with the shady dealers!

Crimson, you messed-up presenting the photo of their rental location, because it gives just cause as to why they are so often out-of-stock.......
