Never been anything free about Ebay, and they're raking in the cash, and they and Paypal go hand in hand. They practically have a monopoly as the payment method there.

And there's nothing about eBay in your original post
I guess $2.99 on a hundred dollar purchase can add up....I'd rather get the $97.01 today versus waiting a week for snail mail.

Ebay did have other payment methods prior to aquiring paypal. The other payment methods were unreliable and provided much worse customer experience then paypal. Fact is that ebay and paypal make a perfect team. Ebay allows the seller to represent him self while offering the security of a large corporation for both seller and buyer a like. I have used paypal to buy and sell for years. I can tell you that paypal is now the biggest or next to biggest payment and credit processor for a good reason. Paypal does charge higher fees to smaller sellers. It just so happens that smaller sellers on average have much much higher claim rates and customer dissatisfaction then larger sellers. i dont understand why people beat on paypal or microsoft or intel. These companies make insane amounts of money. They also make our standard of living better.

I agree
Before eBay bought them out, they were half-way decent. Now they are a pain in the b_tt. They are last source of payment I would use.

I've seen enough complaints about Paypal to know I wouldn't use them for any big ticket items, they have a reputation for siding with the seller in disputes.Your protection is much better with a credit card. And you can't separate them from Ebay, the two go hand in hand.Just because a company is big and successful, doesn't mean they're above reproach,Intel was recently hit with a big fine for unfair business practices. And Microsoft was ordered by the courts to stop selling MS Word because of copyright violations.

I find that the larger the company the bigger the target they are for complaints, accusations, and frivolous suits. They like every other business are out there to make money. If it didn't work or a majority didn't like it, then they wouldn't be successful.
As a business owner, it is obvious that the larger my business gets the harder it becomes to accommodate and make everyone happy. Therefore if I ever do become as large as Intel, Ebay, Paypal, or Microsoft, I know there will be people that are unhappy with some aspect of my business. Thats where catering to the majority and maximizing profits come in to place. Its all just business people. If you are unhappy with the service of any company simply don't use them. Obviously they are making others happy or they wouldn't still be around

my sentiments exactly. As a business owner i know what it is like to be both a consumer and business. Over the years i have learned that most consumer complaints are due to the consumers inability to read. Some are due to mistakes made by the business but most complaints can be averted by simply asking questions. A good portion of my time is wasted by proactively giving every customer frequently asked answers after the sale by email and voice because they dont want to ask prior to the sale.
