BEWARE XFX Video Card warranty CLAIMS

I purchased 2/07/207 a

XFX GF 8800GTX 768MB DDR3 DUAL DVI TV for $589 from Newegg

under the spec listed for the V/c it stated

Part & Labor

Life long Warranty

After 2 1/2 years the v/c crashed

XFX will NOT honor the advertised warranty.. with the following claims!

The warranty is voided because it was NOT registered within 30 days after purchase!

NOWHERE NOWHERE on any the their retailers websites where they offer

LIFELONG WARRANTY it it mentioned or printed that the warranty is only good with registering the v/c within 30 days after purchase.

to me that's

MANUFACTURERS FRAUD!

Requiring registration is a common practice, both BFG and EVGA require it for full warranty coverage.I don't know about XFX,but both of them make it clear in the documentation that comes with the card.I have noticed that Newegg can be pretty sketchy when it comes to listing warranty information.

I beg to differ. It is clearly stated in their warranty terms on their site:

Quote:
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state (or jurisdiction to jurisdiction).
How long does this limited warranty last?
MOTHERBOARDS: The limited hardware warranty for Motherboards lasts for a time period of two years.
GRAPHICS CARDS: The limited hardware warranty for Graphics Cards lasts for a time period of one year. If you register the product online at Language Selection within 30 days of purchase, your limited warranty will be extended for the duration of your life. Registration within 30 days of the date of purchase is a condition precedent to receiving the lifetime warranty.
XFX Warranty Information

Even Newegg has this to say:

Quote:
Manufacturer Warranty

Beyond any applicable Newegg return policy, this item is warranted independently by the product's Manufacturer. Below is a summary provided for convenience only and may not be accurate or current.

Once again,

Lifetime warranty ...means to me lifetime...otherwise stated differently with "warning" only applies registering within 30 days after purchase.

if a consumer has to meet certain steps to get that warranty both manufacturer & retailer are obligated to clearly post the it!

If lifetime only applies registering within 30 days...then the manufacturer &

retailer is obligated to state it on their website under "specs" and not keep it buried of the manufacturers website on the bottom some where.

btw

XFX claims their warranty conditions as of April 2007

I purchased the v/c 2.7.2007

PNY is even worse.. their "LIFETIME WARRANTY" is based upon the shelf life of the product. Once it is no longer sold regularly (With Video Cards, this can be 1 to 18 months) the "lifetime" period is over.. I bought my last PNY product when they burned me with that.

Huh that's weird. I've never had a problem with XFX's RMA. In fact, it was one of the more painless one's I've had to deal with.
I sent in a old 7900GT, and they sent back a 9800gt. Seem like a good to deal me!

And almost all manufactures have the same policy. I know EVGA withheld a RMA from me because I did the same thing, and failed to register in time.

You think they're bad, try to RMA a Zotac card!

BTW, it does say plainly XFX's site:
Quote:
GRAPHICS CARDS: The limited hardware warranty for Graphics Cards lasts for a time period of one year. If you register the product online at Language Selection within 30 days of purchase, your limited warranty will be extended for the duration of your life. Registration within 30 days of the date of purchase is a condition precedent to receiving the lifetime warranty.

I'm inclined to agree with the original poster, jo2003. If the requirement to register within 30 days isn't presented along with the LIFETIME WARRANTY specification, but rather is something a buyer has to proactively go to the company's web site to learn, then this borders on deception as essentially a form of hidden terms.

How many customers go to a manufacturer's web site to read every word of all applicable terms & conditions, and all the other legal mumbo-jumbo companies cover their behinds with when they've bought a product? To offer a conditional LIFETIME WARRANTY like this, conditional on registering within 30 days, without stating the condition, is a convenient way of weeding out a portion of buyers from warranty coverage.

I'm less likely to buy from XFX after learning this, but for me it serves as a wakeup for avoiding this trap on future purchases.

I don't believe you have to register for a warranty to be valid. If you have a copy of the express or implied warranty and proof of purchase, they should fix it. Contact the company and go up the chain of command. Be polite but tenacious. Get their response in writing (email) then contact New Egg. If NE doesn't respond, contact the BBB and describe the problem stating you bought it from NE.

Worked for me on a rebate problem.

With the companies mentioned, you do have to register to get the full lifetime warranty. But I do know BFG plainly states this in the documentation that comes with the card,it's not hidden in fine print or anything like that.

Hi,

I have a similar situation with an XFX card. I saw this thread over on another forum where a guy was able to get them to approve the RMA.
It seems they changed their policy after April 2007 to require the registration. We definitely have a case if this is true.
