Just nuking the HD could be a problem with a Vista notebook; you'd have to be sure that any integrated services on the MoBo - Audio, Video, Modem etc - had XP drivers available. I had a weird situation with a HP desktop that I reformatted to get rid of all that pre-installed junk; my Soundblaster card wouldn't work, it drove me crazy, 'til I figured out I had to
re-install the original integrated audio drivers, so I could turn the integrated audio
off, and
then use my Soundblaster!
